The CPO will have clinical management responsibility for pharmacy operations throughout the medical center and a leadership role in safe and effective medication use. As a member of the senior leadership team, the CPO is expected to work collaboratively with clinical chairs, nursing, key faculty, and senior management executives to develop and manage a pharmacy program that exemplifies best practices in the field.

Pharmacy services at UChicago Medicine have seen significant growth over the past several years, due in large part to improvements in operations and additional clinical offerings. The residency program currently has eight PGY1 residents, two non-traditional residents, two administrative residents (HSPA), and 13 PGY2 residents.

The next Vice President & Chief Pharmacy Officer will have opportunities for continued growth. These opportunities include a new $14M home infusion pharmacy, infusion suite, and central fill pharmacy in Calumet City by February 2023. In addition, the system is adding a clinic, infusion center, and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana in August 2023. As well, a new cancer hospital on campus in 2026, which will include an infusion pharmacy and a satellite pharmacy. There is also a discussion of building a new hospital pharmacy and laboratory facility on the main campus with corresponding pharmacy satellites for CCD and Mitchell hospitals.

The ideal candidate will have strong business and financial acumen as well as successful leadership experience in a large community, teaching hospital, or academic medical center. This leader will be highly collaborative and forward-thinking. Additional experience and leadership within college pharmacy advisory boards and professional society advisory boards is highly desired.
