Vice President, Grocery Channel 




The primary responsibilities of this role, Vice President, Grocery Channel, are to:


  • Lead the development of the National Grocery OGSMs (Objectives, Goals, Strategies, Measures) ensuring alignment to US Sales OGSMs and deployment across three key customer teams within National Grocery;
  • Communicate with Sales Strategy and other internal departments to understand strategies and tactics for the business and effectively communicate these to the National Grocery Team;
  • Provide customer-focused field input and analysis to internal departments to assist in the development of market-driven business strategies, plans and programs;
  • Lead and direct the National Grocery Team in establishing and achieving customer annual and long term priorities;
  • Achieve Bayer volume and KPI objectives through successful sell-in and execution of the retail controllable across Bayer’s categories in:
    • Assortment;
    • Promotion;
    • Pricing;
    • Shelving;
    • New Products.
  • Lead team in providing monthly forecast by customer, including risk and opportunity assessment;
  • Guide team in analytical initiatives to ensure fact-based support to sell-in of Bayer initiatives and to drive identification of new opportunities;
  • Resolve conflicts within National Grocery and manages conflicts across channels;
  • Lead and actively participate in Continuous Business Planning process with National Grocery Team, including:
    • Lead and participate in joint business planning with customers.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of annual business plans for:
    • Course correction to current year plan achievement;
    • Implications to next year’s plan development.
  • Evaluate retail controllable best practices to identify opportunities;
  • Lead and participate in key strategic meetings with customers (such as top-to-tops) as the senior interface with National Grocery Team customer executives;
  • Be responsible for the recruitment, development, and career pathing for the National Grocery Team;
  • Lead direct reports in knowledge, understanding and management of Customer Business Centers, including Customer Business Manager(s), as well as Customer & Shopper Solutions and Customer & Shopper Activation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 15 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry (across multiple channels);
  • This experience should include experience as a commercial director, with extensive time spent in a field leadership role and direct management of teams;
  • This experience must have produced personal competency in leadership and development of people;
  • Must have strong customer focus with demonstrated building of customer relationships across a multi-customer channel;
  • Also, communication, with an emphasis in active listening, as well as competencies in the area of critical thinking that has produced solid problem solving and practical judgment skills;
  • The incumbent is one who drives for results by utilizing resources (i.e. people, time and money) while being able to work well in a team environment leveraging their network of contacts through their organizational agility. They possess a clear understanding of customer/marketplace needs in order to help develop new and creative strategic visions and organizational/work processes;
  • The incumbent is a key contributor to the development of people within the organization and helping to sustain and develop relationships.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA;
  • Experience managing across functions and geography;
  • Management of external broker/agency relationships. The experience should include at least 6 plus years direct line people development, finance management, strategic business planning, multiple channel representation, and category development.
