Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist to join the Translational Medicine group. You will play a key role in advancing our engineered T-cell chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-T) pipeline and development of next generation therapies in the emerging field of engineered T-cell based cancer therapy. You will be expected to lead pharmacokinetic (PK) as well as assist with pharmacodynamic (PD) and cell-based analyses in support of clinical trials. This position will report to a Director in the Translational Medicine department.

Responsibilities

  • Development of novel assays, execution on clinical samples, data analysis and interpretation in support of Kite clinical trials to inform on Research and Development activities and strategy
    Formulate hypotheses, design and perform experiments related to the clinical development of CAR-T cell products currently in development.
  • Establish pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) analysis to support clinical pharmacology for CAR-T clinical trials
  • Develop multi-color flow cytometry methodologies along with cell-based functional assays to interrogate product phenotype and function
  • Successfully execute and document laboratory procedures and experiments in a GLP- "like" environment
  • Present data findings at internal, cross functional and external meetings
  • Serve as a lead on study teams to oversee delivery of key data deliverables required for registrational studies or external collaborations
  • Build methods for examining T cell product attributes and immunogenicity profiling
  • Lead the development, qualification, and execution of emerging cellular or molecular assays for clinical biospecimen monitoring
  • Work with Clinical Operations, Clinical Data Management and Biometrics to advance data acquisition and analyses of clinical trial data
  • Support the preparation of data packages for publication, presentation and/or submission to regulatory agencies
  • Support global regulatory requests including Investigational New Drug (IND), Biologics License Application (BLA) and other key global regulatory filing activities


Basic Qualifications

Advanced scientific degree (i.e. MD, PharmD, PhD) and 2+ years of scientific experience

OR

Master's Degree and 8+ years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in tumor immunology, cancer biology or related field with 3+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of cancer immunotherapy, immunology and/or cell therapy
  • Experience working with engineered T cells, immunophenotyping, and NGS-based approaches to profiling the function of tumor and immune cells
  • Experience with bioanalytical assay development and validation in a GxP environment
  • Hands-on experience in developing assays and executing experiments using the following techniques Quantitative PCR (qPCR), ddPCR using a variety of sample types (cells, bulk frozen tissue, formalin fixed material etc)
  • Knowledge of multi-color flow cytometry (e.g. FACSCanto II, LSRFortessa, FACSARIA), multi-parametric ELISA-based assays (e.g. MSD, Luminex, ultra-sensitive next-gen technologies) and cell culture and functional assays utilizing cancer cell lines and primary CAR T cells would be advantageous
  • Experience with biomarker analysis in clinical trials and regulatory filings
  • Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong collaboration, excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to clearly and effectively present scientific data to a cross-functional audience
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced matrix-based work environment and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
