The Position
The UX/UI Designer will contribute to the
US Device Research (USDR) vision to explore and develop new technology, product ideas, and game-changers which will add value to patients and Novo Nordisk in the future, within therapeutic areas covered by Novo Nordisk corporate strategy. The UX/UI Designer will solve complex usability problems through innovative design solutions. At the same time, the User Experience/ User Interface (UX/UI) Designer will be a strong team player who contributes to development of software and hardware solutions, while acting as a role model for others to follow. The UX/UI Designer will act as an expert in deploying best design practices within USDR projects and is expected to maintain fluency in the latest and most innovative approaches to UX and UI design.


Relationships
The UX/UI Designer reports to a member of the
US Device Research (USDR) Management Team. Internal relationships include R&D colleagues in Seattle and in Denmark. This includes engineers, software developers, designers, user researchers, data scientists, and may include Novo Nordisk Research Center Seattle, Inc. (NNRCSI) drug researchers. External relationships include relationships with commercial and academic collaboration partners.


Essential Functions
  • Lead UX/UI design in US Device Research (USDR)
  • Design workflows, interfaces, and experiences
  • Understand and integrate technical requirements of medical devices into design work in optimal ways, while finding creative solutions to minimize the impact of technical constraints on user experience
  • Design systems with multiple user interfaces (e.g. a smartphone app which exchanges data with another device) and complex user flows/interactions
  • Perform high quality aesthetic design to drive a positive patient experience with Novo Nordisk products
  • Integrate patient safety measures into designs while still providing an engaging user experience
  • Design and build wire frames, mock-ups, prototypes at various levels of fidelity, with prototyping apps as a focus
  • Work closely with ethnographers/user researchers to maintain an acute focus on user needs and preferences
  • Participate in frequent user testing to drive fast-paced, iterative design changes

Physical Requirements
Up to 15% overnight travel.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art, Design, Human Factors, HCI, or related field. Advanced degree or certification a plus
  • 7+ years of experience in UX/UI design or closely related discipline
  • Strong background and skills in visual design in addition to UX design
  • Portfolio demonstrating user-centered design and visual design skills
  • 3+ years of experience with building web and app interfaces
  • Quick to independently acquire new skills and knowledge
  • Ability to turn around new user test findings into updated designs deftly and independently
  • Ability to be a leader in concept development by sparring with engineering colleagues on requirements and risk
  • Self-directed and driven, able to effectively work with minimal direction
  • Fluently produces high quality work, able to manage tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • 3+ years of experience with design for a range of devices in addition to smartphones/tablets and computers
  • Good understanding of physical interaction with devices and design for accessibility
  • High degree of user empathy and ability to successfully integrate empathy into designs
  • Ability to produce digital prototypes at a high level of fidelity. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, and common prototyping tools such as Invision. Proficiency in Axure is highly desirable
  • 3+ years of data visualization experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in a cross-functional lean/agile environment
  • Experience in medical fields is desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills
