Schedule: Full-time

Shift: Variable, Saturdays, some weekend and holidays included, primarily dayshift hours but occasional hours on weekends or nights if needed.  Must be flexible.

Position Summary

Coordinates all activities and communication involved in transferring patients from one facility to another and provide all appropriate follow up as requested.

Minimum Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

  • Experience in Emergency Room/Critical Care Unit/EMS strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology

  • Demonstrated evidence of strong communication skills

  • Excellent typing and computer skills and aptitude including Microsoft Office products 

  • Customer service experience, and the ability to multi-task efficiently.

Position Duties (essential functions denoted with an * )

  • Receive physician requests from transferring facilities and coordinate patient transfer to receiving facility.*

  • Professionally and accurately represent all Centura facilities.

  • Able to develop and maintain referral relationships with outlying facilities through consistent customer service and ease of use.*

  • Facilitate all communications between referring and receiving physicians and other hospital staff.*

  • Document all required information pertaining to the patient transfer process.*

  • Accurately enter information into the database as it occurs, for creation of real time data.*

  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills with all callers.*

  • Coordinate flight and ground transportation as needed.*

  • Use a multiple phone line system.*

  • Use tools and resources in order to contact appropriate physicians.*

  • Relay information accurately.*

  • Accurately follow protocols as developed by each Centura facility.*

  • Stay professional and efficient in high stress situations.*

  • Work 12 hour shifts.*

  • Supports referral patterns in collaboration with Program Director.*

  • Provides follow up to referring physicians as outlined in procedures, on patients that were transferred in to the Centura Health system through the Transfer Center service.*

  • Maintains accurate and thorough database on patients transferred into the Centura Health System utilizing the Transfer Center services.*

  • Supports Outreach Services, Trauma Services and other departments in provision of data and coordination of follow up.*

  • Participates in formal and informal education about operational and clinical aspects of dispatching.

  • Effectively uses time, personnel, and equipment to provide high quality dispatching.

  • Adapts to rapidly changing technologies, policies, regulations, and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.

  • Demonstrates high skill level and ethical/legal practices through on-going education and meeting attendance.
