Job Summary
The Per Diem Tissue Recovery Technician assists with the evaluation and recovery of all tissues for transplantation or research. The position functions as a part time employee of LifeShare Of The Carolinas, and is responsible for the surgical donor evaluation, surgical recovery, preservation, placement, and distribution of all tissues.

Essential Functions
  • Takes calls to perform donor evaluation as to suitability and viability of tissue.
  • Performs aseptic recovery of tissue including but not limited to bone, ligaments, tendon, heart for valves, saphenous vein, and skin according to departmental policies and procedures. This may include the lifting, positioning, and transportation of donors at the donor hospital, as well as the utilization of Surgical Sterile Technique for individual tissues.
  • Cleans the Operating Room post recovery of tissue donor.
  • Assists in lifting, positioning, and transportation of donors for tissue recovery.
  • Assists in new staff training during bone and tissue recoveries.
  • Takes calls to perform donor evaluation as to suitability and viability of tissue as needed.
  • Collects blood samples from donors and properly labels, packages and ships to the receiving lab.
  • Maintains donor and tissue records under the guidance of the QA Coordinator and the supervision of the clinical education coordinator.
  • Maintains equipment, drugs, and other supplies for recovery, preservation, and distribution.
  • Insures complete and accurate documentation of donation activity in the donor charts and records.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to push, pull or otherwise move heavy objects, and must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs. Must have good manual dexterity and visual acuity. Must be able to endure long periods of standing and walking. Must be able to endure irregular sleep patterns. Must have good communication skills with families, hospital personnel, physicians, and fellow employees.

Education, Experience and Certifications
Medical or science degree required. RN, MT, BA, or BS in Biology or Life Science preferred. A CTBS, CEBT, CST, ST, ORT, or an LPN with OR experience, will be accepted in lieu of degree. Sterile technique experience preferred.
