The Science Zone AmeriCorps Program - Reduced Half-Time

The Science Zone serves two fundamental purposes: 1) to provide educational opportunities by offering classes, field trips, and camps; 2) provide an enriching opportunity for experiential learning by providing a lively, ever-changing museum experience for families to experience together. Reduced Half-time members will primarily engage with students through before and after-school science clubs and by providing Saturday activities in the community, outdoors, or at The Science Zone. There may be occasional evening community education events as well. During the summer, reduced halftime members will assist in the delivery of summer camps and community outreach activities. During the summer, member hours will shift to full-time and will involve a multitude of outdoor activities. Members must be capable of spending time outdoors daily. Depending on the abilities of the member, this position may include hiking, biking, kayaking, rock climbing, animal care, or social media/marketing support. Members will also be required to attend national service events and projects, including MLK, Jr. Day of Service. Summer only quarter time positions are also available.

Member Duties : The term of service for this reduced half-time position begins on Jan. 3, 2022, and ends on Aug. 12, 2022. In order to successfully complete the term of service and to be eligible for the post-service education award, Members will serve a minimum of 675 hours and attend the MLK, Jr. Day of Service project. In order to complete service in the time frame allotted, during the school year, members in this position serve approximately 10 hours/week that will include Saturday commitments. Duties will include teaching before or after school clubs, providing tutoring, or participating in outreach events. During the summer, members in this position will serve 40 hours per week (8 hrs./day) M-F supporting summer camp classes and community outreach events. Onboarding and training weeks during January and May will include approximately 20-25 hrs/week. Members are required to participate in pre-service and ongoing training sessions throughout their time of service.
