Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position In this position the employee will supervise a highly experienced team of telecommunication professionals which support Corning’s strategic customers. Additional responsibilities include the hiring, planning, scheduling, coordinating and the development of complete installation solutions (product and deployment methods). This position will primarily be focused on supporting a large fiber optic network build.

Major Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate with the ES Customer Program Manager, Sales, Marketing, PLM, Development and Manufacturing to provide technical field support as needed.
  • Ensure a skilled TFS workforce by ensuring all personnel have the tools and training necessary to provide quality product training and support to Corning customers.
  • Support the execution of successful FOA deployments and field trials of COC cable/ hardware and equipment solutions 
  • Identify and communicate in product improvements, and new product/solution/deployment opportunities. 
  • Train personnel in the functions of project management and other group functions as required. 
  • Motivate, direct and evaluate TFS individual and team performance and provide positive and or constructive feedback as necessary. 
  • Supervise the TFS group in a cost-effective manner adhering to the budgetary targets. 
  • Generate required weekly and monthly reports 
  • Assist with the department’s recruiting efforts by participating in the identification and, interview process of both internal and external candidates
  • Customer Program support. 
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all administrative tasks of assigned personnel, such as expense reports, trip reports, product evaluation reports, and project documentation. 
  • Administer corporate policies and ensure employee adherence to policies. 
  • Provide Engineering support for other tactical projects that may be assigned. 
  • Prepare presentation, spreadsheets, graphs and reports as requested using appropriate skills and software. 
  • Manage confidential and proprietary information with discretion and sound judgment. 
  • Other collateral duties as assigned in support of ES goals and objectives

Education Requirements 

  • BS, BA degree in Engineering Related Studies (i.e., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Optics, etc.) 
  • 6+ years of Field support in the Telecommunications industry experience 
  • Experienced with telecom fiber optic network construction methods and equipment 
  • 2+ years of technical supervisory experience
  • Will also consider: AA degree in Technical Related Studies (i.e., Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Optics, etc.), 10+ years of Field and Telecommunications fiber optic industry experience, 4+ years of technical supervisory experience 
  • Experienced with telecom fiber optic network construction methods and equipment 
  • Significant knowledge of COC products 
  • Proficiency in Fiber network design Experience Requirements

Additional Requirements

  • Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of four years. 
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening and driving record check. 
  • Must not be color blind – distinct color acuity is required in this industry. 
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. Passport. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • Travel up to 60%; Travel will be required to support job start up’s, contractor training sessions, fill in needed support gap’s and address on-site field issues.
