Job Summary

Supervises Sterile Processing activities associated with processing of equipment, supplies and instruments utilized for diagnostic or surgical intervention. Activities include decontamination, packaging, sterilization and distribution to departments supported. Interprets policies, procedures, standards and regulations. The supervisor will support the manager in carrying out department objectives. The supervisor provides a leadership role for the continuous quality improvement initiatives. The supervisor will be involved in interviewing, hiring, scheduling, coaching, corrective action, as well as, performance evaluations. Must have good interpersonal skills necessary to direct the work of subordinates and to communicatye effectively and interact at all levels of the medical staff.  

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports..

Minimum Education

High School diploma or equivalent

Minimum Experience

5 years - Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician Experience

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

STERILE PROCESSOR - CERTIFIED - NCSP

Specific Acceptable Credentials (if applicable)

Sterile Processing Certification either through IAHCSMM or CBSPD (Lawson Code NCSP)

In lieu of the Above Minimum Requirements

Associates degree in a healthcare related field or business may substitute for 2 years of the experience requirement.  

Other Required Experience

Supervisor Certification from CBSPD or IAHCSMM - Preferred

Must have knowledge of all forms of Sterilization, High Level Disinfection, Decontamination, Assembly and be able to identify various surgical instrumentation - Required

Coordinator or Supervisory Experience - Preferred

Knowledge of Instrument Tracking Systems (i.e. SPM, Censitrac, GE Ipath) - Required
