Novo Nordisk is currently building a new diabetes API plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing facility that employs 800 people. The new plant will initially employ 700 employees to produce the active ingredients for a new diabetes oral treatment and a range of other diabetes drugs.

Position Purpose:

Supervises process maintenance technicians. Ensures maintenance operations are conducted & performed in the following areas: Fermentation, Recovery & Purification.


 Follows all safety & environmental requirements in the performance of duties.

 Follows Standard Operating Procedures in performance of assigned duties.

 Supports implementation of upgrades & new engineering projects.

 Provides guidance & hands-on training to direct reports.

 Assists in the development of SOPs, PM procedures & bill of material selections for process maintenance at the DAPI US site.

 Organizes, coordinates & reviews daily work orders (WO) & Preventive Maintenance (PM) work.

 Responsible to support Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) activities including condition monitoring & predictive technologies, as applicable.

 Ensures all mandatory training requirements for the process maintenance team are met.

 Communicates easily with contractors, engineers & OEM providers, as well as internal equipment owners & operators, for successful start-up of the DAPI facility.

 Responsible to support process equipment IQ/OQ/PQ or any other validation startup activity as required.

 Acts as primary interface between Maintenance & Production.

 Ensures preventive maintenance of mechanical & control components so as to minimize impact to production.

 Drives preventive maintenance execution process improvements, including developing & revising SOPs & SAP functions.

 Strong emphasis on documentation according to FDA regulations.

 Other accountabilities as assigned.


BA/BS degree in a related engineering or science discipline, or equivalent combination of education & experience. PREFERRED


•Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience required. MANDATORY

•Ten (10) or more years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing. DESIRED

Technical/Process/Functional Knowledge: PREFERRED

Knowledgeable in the following systems: Automation Control Systems, Electromechanical controls, Electrical, Mechanical, large tank API systems including all downstream processing components. In addition, ability & experience with automated records systems such as SAP, schematics, wiring diagrams, P&ID diagrams & other technical documents. Computer literacy.

Organization/Planning: PREFERRED

Experience developing work plans, supervising execution, checking results & revising work plans.

Problem Solving: PREFERRED

Demonstrates a systematic approach to problem solving & troubleshooting. Supports & actively participates in practical problem solving activities for the process. Documents problems & works to bring them rapidly to solution.

Physical & Other Requirements:

•Ability to work in & around an active construction site during project phase.

•Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. with assistance.

•Ability to work in confined spaces & near operating equipment.

•Ability to attain clean room gowning certification.

•Ability to work hours necessary to support production.
