Description

We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated Staff Scientist with extensive experience in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of large histological data sets to join the Innovation & Technology group of the Clinical Histology Core. The group is at the forefront of the development and implementation of cutting-edge histological methods and bioinformatics approaches as well as perform deep tissue profiling and biomarker discovery across different clinical programs and disease areas.

The successful candidate should be able to use the latest scientific findings and available technologies to develop, integrate and apply new image analysis solutions, state-of-the-art computational methods and data mining strategies to address key challenges of clinical drug development. This position will have a focus on the integration, statistical analyses and visualization of histological and high-dimensional biological data sets as well as the development of analytical pipelines, clinical data libraries and predictive modeling techniques. The combination of image analysis features with response and survival data will generate novel biological insights into disease and drug mechanisms and inform the clinical decision-making process.

As a Staff Scientist in Oncology, a typical day may include the following:

• Lead and support projects and/or project teams in the field of bioinformatics, statistics and data mining as well as proactively identify informatics opportunities, propose solutions, and support analytical needs
• Cross-functional collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to develop analytical pipelines, computational methods, predictive models and simulation strategies
• Integration and manipulation of high-dimensional biological data from various analytical platforms as well as combining and merging different sample manifests
• Design and perform statistical analyses and data visualization of diverse histological data sets
• Generate disease and therapeutic linkage data and apply advanced analytics to guide biomarker discovery and indication selection, measure drug target engagement and enable data-driven patient stratification and response prediction
• Develop and implement computational solutions and new machine and/or deep learning approaches for digital image segmentation and histological data analysis
• Prepare and present findings to cross-functional teams, review committees, senior management and/or external conferences

This role may be for you if:

• You have the ability to work in a fast-pace team environment and collaborate in a cross-functional organization
• You are a creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and passion for translation biomedical research
• You have excellent written and verbal communication and strong data presentation skills

To be considered for this position, you must have a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biostatistics, biomedical engineering, data science, computer science or related field; Ph.D. with 6+ years. We are searching for an Expert in statistics and data analysis with solid understanding of digital pathology and cancer biology. Experience in integrating, manipulating and analyzing complex, large volume, high-dimensional data sets from varying sources (e.g. pathology, genomics, imaging or clinical) with focus on digital pathology. Ability to prototype software solutions and analytical pipelines for complex biological data analysis is essential. Strong knowledge in fundamental statistics concepts as it relates to clinical data (e.g. survival analysis, Bayesian methods, hypothesis testing) and expert user of statistical data analysis tools. We are seeking an individual with excellent programming skills in one or more analytics packages such as R, Python, Spotfire and/or MATLAB. Experience in developing and applying machine learning and/or deep learning approaches for digital image and medical data analysis is preferred. Familiarity with digital pathology analysis software packages (e.g. HALO, Visiopharm or Definiens) is a plus. Track record of scientific leadership exemplified by first author peer-reviewed publications ideally in the field of computational analysis and/or data minding with context to digital pathology or cancer research. Career exposure to pharmaceutical industry and R&D is preferred.
