Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Senior industrial designerIn this role you’ll be exercising a broad range of your industrial design skills and management capabilities, including providing design leadership, supporting project definition, and driving UX/UI creation. This is an opportunity to create a new internal capability in one of the USA’s oldest companies. Consequently, you’ll need to have a “builder” mindset with the ability to both self-motivate as well as to inspire and train team members on a continual basis. If tackling this kind of challenge sounds exciting to you, then you’re the right kind of candidate!Key responsibilitiesCollaborate with product management, engineering, manufacturing, and other teams to generate powerful, targeted customer experiences that enhance the Corning brandGenerate industrial design concepts—from crazy to conservative—for a wide range of parts and systems, from tiny connectors through to large cabinetsUtilize sketches, mockups and renderings in a highly iterative fashion to help develop teams develop better products fasterCreate 3D surfacing files for parts along with color/material/finishes specifications. Develop 2D graphical assets as needed.Facilitate customer insight research—identifying areas to explore, structuring the research, generating research assets as required, observing in the field, and interpreting resultsVisualize and organize information to accelerate trend and opportunity identificationTrain team members and other parts of the organization in design thinking methodology and how to create holistic brand experiencesRepresent the brand experience office within the organization, including communication at all hierarchy levelsContinually drive toward superior user experience and brand expressionBasic requirementsBachelor degree in industrial design or related field6+ years of in-house industrial design experience with physical goods, preferably for a mix of B2B and B2C marketsExcellent sketching and 3D craftsmanshipTechnical proficiency in 3D CAD, 3D Rendering, and Adobe CSFundamental understanding of a range of materials, finishes, and manufacturing techniques.
