What you will do

Let's do this. Let's change the world. In this vital role you will contribute to the team's mission to support the discovery of both small and large molecule therapeutics across multiple therapeutic areas. As an integral member of the Discovery Protein Science team in the Department of Biologic Therapeutic Discovery within Therapeutic Discovery organization, the Sr. Associate Scientist will focus on membrane protein drug targets, drive the science through hands-on lab work and implementation of enabling technologies and produce high-quality, fit-for-purpose membrane proteins to support the Amgen pipeline.

You will also participate in collaborations with partner functions such as Biologics Discovery, Structural Biology and the Research Biology organization.

  • Support Amgen pipeline in a fast-paced and cross-functional work environment
  • Independently design, perform, troubleshoot and optimize protein purification experiments
  • Maintain detailed records and present data at department and project team meetings
  • Be part of a collaborative membrane protein research group; collectively drive innovative science and technology development in the membrane protein science arena

Basic Qualifications:
  • MS degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or a related field with a minimum 3 years of industry or academia experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or a related field and 5 years of industry or academia experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Proven scientific understanding and hands-on experience in membrane protein purification, formulation and characterization
  • Experience in protein expression in E. coli, yeast, insect cells or mammalian cells
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
