Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 

  • Lead and design solution architecture through proof-of-concept efforts and industry benchmarking that will enable best-in-class IT capabilities supporting Merck’s Product Lifecycle Management business processes.
  • Provide expertise in areas of Specification Management, Product Structure/BOM management, Integrated Change Control, and Regulatory integration, as well as future capabilities such as CAD integration, Requirements Management, Design History File, etc.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of architectural artifacts including capability diagrams and solution roadmaps, and contribute to shaping the future state of the solutions.
  • Analyze, design, and develop an architecture roadmap and proposed implementation plan based upon current vs. future state in a cohesive architecture viewpoint.
  • Coordinate with business users and development teams to work towards an efficient solution based on analysis of acceptable trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with Technical Leads to deliver high quality solutions while leverage existing IT solutions.

This role will require approximately 50% travel to NJ/PA during the first 12-18 months of the project.  Travel will reduce to an average of 25% longer-term.



  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent


  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in architecture of enterprise systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in driving and maintaining solution capability and architectural roadmaps, preferably focused on Product Lifecycle Management and enablement.
  • Demonstrated deep experience in architecture of enterprise systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving and maintaining solution capability and architectural roadmaps, preferably focused on Product Lifecycle Management and enablement.
  • Strong process understanding (preferably product lifecycle management domain), system architecture skills with analytical thinking for problem solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with both a business and a technical audience.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively as a team across global hubs, and maintain a highly collaborative, transparent effort.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with and through others to achieve shared goals.


  • Knowledge and experience with SAP PLM, Oracle Agile PLM, Dassault Systemes PLM and/or Siemens PLM.
  • Strong understanding of PLM integration touchpoints with ERP Systems or other Custom or COTS Applications.
  • Must be able to develop and articulate a plan of action, whether in support of strategy development or planning a roadmap.
  • Understanding of GxP and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience working with and managing partners/suppliers, consultants and/or contractors.
  • Agile/scrum experience.
