Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

The PR and Social Media Specialist will develop engaging content for our social media channels to advance the Corning Optical Communications brand. Working with the PR and Social Media Manager and other colleagues on the global communications team, you will expand Corning Optical Communications’ social media impact by growing its following and deepening its engagement with audiences. Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop high-impact content for Corning Optical Communications’ social media channels, with timely, engaging posts tailored for specific audiences. 
  • Working with the PR and Social Media Manager and other colleagues in global communications and marketing, assist in creating high-value brand journalism content that can be leveraged on our social channels. 
  • Deepen Corning Optical Communications’ social media presence by expanding our reach into other social platforms in line with strategic goals.
  • Assist in planning and executing real-time social media posts from Corning-sponsored public events.
  • Engage with audiences on our social channels, commenting in the Corning voice, monitoring comments and directing them through appropriate channels for follow-up as needed.
  • Understand what’s trending on social media, particularly in the technology sector, and identify ways for Corning Optical Communications to engage in the conversation.
  • Maintain master calendar of social media posts, including paid and organic content, working with colleagues in global communications and marketing. 
  • Use analytics to assess effectiveness of content and grow our social media audiences.
  • Working with colleagues on the communications team, assist with preparing press releases as needed.

Required Competencies: 

  • Accomplished social media specialist with strong track record of managing social channels for one or more brands. 
  • Clear and accessible writing style. Ability to present a brand’s story to the public in an engaging, professional voice. 
  • Impeccable communication skills.
  • Exceptional copy editing and proofing skills.
  • Ability to distill complex technology concepts into easy-to-understand language. Experience working with technology brands a plus.
  • Comfortable engaging in the social community, by commenting, liking and sharing posts as appropriate.
  • Ability to identify what’s trending – or about to trend – on social media, particularly as it relates to the technology sector.

Business Skills: 

  • Cross-functional team experience.
  • Ability to manage an editorial calendar.
  • Project management experience a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal and management skills; diplomatic and resourceful.
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations or communications.

Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in public relations and social media. Agency experience a plus.
