JOB SUMMARY



An employee in this position will sit with patients in their room to keep them safe. They will work under the direction of the charge nurse on the assigned unit.  They may sit with the following patients:  pediatrics, adolescents , adult, geriatric, terminal and hospice



Job Requirements (Core Competencies)




  • Education:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred                     



  • Experience:

    • Experience with patient care preferred                 



  • License/Certification:

    • American Heart Association BLS certification required within 90 day orientation period..



  • Other required skills and abilities:

    • Ability to learn new tasks, follow written and verbal instructions, make judgments, work well with a variety of people,            

    • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; well organized and able to multi-task



  • Physical Abilities:

    • Vision sufficient to read medical records, instruments, documentation, and visual changes in client condition.

    • Hearing sufficient to interact with client who may be unable to speak at normal voice level.  Sufficient mobility and dexterity to assist patients with call lights, side rails and to react appropriately to confused or agitated patients until assistance arrives.





ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS




  • Maintains a safe clean environment                        

  • Understands the role of the sitter                             

  • Demonstrates understanding of  changes in patients behavior                     

  • Understands De-Escalation techniques                  

  • Understands how to react to confused/agitated patients                               

  • Demonstrates ability to notify RN with condition changes                              

  • Other duties as assigned or requested.



Physical Requirements




  • Medium Work - exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly
