To help meet the growing demand for our diabetes treatment, Novo Nordisk expects to double production of diabetes drugs over the next decade. Novo Nordisk is currently building a new diabetes API plant in Clayton, NC next to our existing facility that employs 800 people. The new plant will initially employ 700 employees to produce the active ingredients for a new diabetes oral treatment and a range of other diabetes drugs.

Position Purpose:
Responsible for facilitating project execution in general & project controls in particular. Lead tactical & long-term production processes & strategic activities to drive project & operational deliverables. Contribute to a positive, constructive & ambitious work environment in the department as well as on the team. Manage operational aspects of the project to include cost, quality & schedule requirements. Build & maintain the operations team. Lead activities to drive operational performance & process/technical improvements. Maintain standardization on the team. Ensure engagement, motivation & development of employees on the team.


 Drive a safe workplace culture, ensuring safety & environmental requirements are met.

 Ensure robust processes are in place to exceed all quality objectives, specifications & requirements.

 Drive project performance on the shift to meet business & stakeholder needs.

 Eliminate issues & build simplicity into the processes.

 Alignment of process activities with lead time targets.

 Set direction based on site goals.

 Drive process performance to meet business & customer needs.

 Drive operational standardization & collaboration with other shift teams.

 Operate the process in a cLEAN® way.

 Manage people issues for shift team members (personnel issues, hire/fire, vacation planning, etc.)

 Coach, develop & engage direct reports, focusing on the NNWay essentials.

 Integrate quality & business ethics into decisions.

 Process confirm project & process standards.

 Other accountabilities as assigned.

Education: BA/BS degree or industry equivalent education & experience. MANDATORY

Experience: 5 years of leadership/management/supervisory experience with a preference toward pharmaceutical industries. MANDATORY

Technical/Process/Functional Knowledge: Knowledgeable in API processes. Experience driving process improvements/design using systematic methodologies. Lean & Six Sigma strongly preferred. Strong business understanding. Ability to read, write and understand complicated product documentation and standard operating procedures with attention to detail. PREFERRED

Organization/Planning: Proven expertise in mentoring & staff development, change management, planning & organizing, managing execution & revising work plans for complex issues addressed by cross functional teams.

Physical & Other Requirements:

• Able to move equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds within the facility.

• Able to routinely operate and inspect manufacturing equipment using hands.

• Able to remain in a stationary position up to 100% of the time.

• Able to constantly position oneself to transfer materials within manufacturing environment.

• Able to frequently move about the building to access other personnel and operational areas.

• Able to move throughout the facility to interact with other employees in the normal office & manufacturing environment.

• Corrected vision to 20/30 and/or ability to pass vision screening assessment necessary to procure motorized vehicle license.

• Able to ascend/descend a ladder to service equipment.

• Able to work atop elevated positions at heights.

• Able to secure a motorized vehicle license and operate motorized equipment.

• Able to work around odorous and/or hazardous materials.

• Able to perform critical job functions in extremely cold work environments.

• Able to work around mechanical equipment.

• Able to work hours as needed to support production including on call, some evenings and/or weekends.

• Able to work within confined spaces for inspection, repair, and maintenance of equipment.

• Able to work in loud noise environments with hearing protection.

• Able to work in & around an active construction site during project phase.

• Able to travel internationally occasionally.

• Able to attain clean room gowning certification.
