Department Description/Job Overview:

The Translational Sciences Group in Sanofi strives to generate scientific knowledge that translates into transformative therapies for patients with unmet medical needs. Translational Sciences is building a world-class Spatial Biology team that is passionate to contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for patients. Translational Sciences is seeking highly motivated Spatial Biology Translational Research Senior Scientist to join the multidisciplinary team to apply novel translational research and data analytical approaches to various internal samples, external and consortia multi-omics, broad big multi-dimensional datasets, as well as genotype & phenotype datasets. The successful candidate would conduct translational research spatial biology research efforts and contribute to various drug discovery and development projects for a number of indications of interest to Sanofi in a specific therapeutic area. The successful candidate will have the training, knowledge and expertise in the drug discovery, development and analytical sciences on the application of advanced approaches on a diverse set of data derived from number of multi-omics and spatial biology studies to contribute to the development of actionable hypotheses for building and progressing portfolio programs. The successful candidate would have the ability to contribute to the development of relevant translational research applications for drug discovery and development. The selected candidate is expected to contribute to the matrix teams for projects and help shape translational research science strategies for the identification of novel therapeutic targets, the discovery of predictive biomarkers for patients' stratification, and analysis of genotype and phenotype data to assess drug discovery and development. The successful candidate would have key strengths in drug discovery and understanding of data integration strategies as key to building and progressing pipeline for patients. This role will provide a number of opportunities to contribute to research, development, and innovation in spatial biology technologies and science for relevant research applications. This exciting role will afford a talented Translational Research Scientist the opportunity to help contribute to translational research and define the utility of data-integration and analytical abilities into novel actionable hypotheses.

Summary of key responsibilities:
  • The Translational Spatial Biology Senior Scientist will deploy spatial imaging technologies and analytical platforms to advance multiple disease area projects.
  • Provide scientific insights to a matrixed team of translational research scientists aligned with multi-omics data generation efforts, Genetics efforts, work collaboratively within a diverse team of Clinical Scientists, Computational Biologists, and disease experts in multiple therapy areas
  • Advance hypotheses generation from spatial biology studies and diverse datasets by working closely with translational researchers by enabling the employment of sound genetics and computational biology approaches, for various aspects of drug discovery and development, in a pan-therapeutic manner
  • Assist in developing a spatial biology research strategy that takes advantage of several data investments for Sanofi to benefit therapeutic area research to progress the portfolio
  • Identify and help bring in spatial biology relevant datasets from external and internal sources to help develop internal resources for various analytical approaches involving genetics and multi-omics
  • Contribute to the application of innovative spatial biology analytical approaches to understand complex disease conditions using multi-dimensional -omics and clinical data
  • Experience in the application of next generation sequencing assays, working with tissue samples (sectioning, staining, sequencing and other relevant activities), develop, and optimize spatial and single cell applications, experience in sample preparation for bulk, spatial, and single cell investigations and exposure to microscopy (optical, fluorescent, super-resolution and relevant science)
  • Contribute to projects to Identify candidate therapeutic targets and biomarkers for indications of interest, through integrated analysis of high-throughput molecular data, real-world data and clinical phenotypes
  • Collaborate with computational scientific teams and help the group champion projects from discovery to early clinical development through application of spatial biology
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years research experience OR Master's degree with 5 years research experience OR Ph.D. in Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biostatistics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology with 3 years of experience.
  • Experience on implementing spatial science on one or more of a collection of currently implemented single cell and spatial scientific capabilities from NanoString (GeoMx), 10x Genomics (Visium, Connect), Akoya (Polaris Vectra, CODEX), Vizgen (MERSCOPE), and Bruker (Vutara VXL), for example.
  • Experience in the application of next generation sequencing assays, working with tissue samples (sectioning, staining, sequencing and other relevant activities), develop, and optimize spatial and single cell applications, experience in sample preparation for bulk, spatial, and single cell investigations and exposure to microscopy (optical, fluorescent, super-resolution and relevant science)
  • Experience in working in drug discovery from research employing genomics, genetics, preferably in a well-recognized drug discovery and development setting
  • Experience on needed technological infrastructure as well as experience in application to uncovering deep human biology to enable drug discovery and development programs for various therapeutic areas.
  • Broad knowledge in translational approaches for target credentialing, biomarkers and indication selection
  • Knowledge of basic biostatistics, and one or more therapeutic areas
  • The ability to contribute to multiple projects in parallel, communicate clearly and effectively and build open and collaborative relationships is essential
  • Strong interested in biology and caring for developing novel therapeutic intervention strategies for patients with unmet disease conditions, and an ability to liaise with scientists in multiple therapy areas to help define and address biological questions
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the application and development of existing technical specifications of spatial biology resources, ability to test and expand technology limits in spatial biology and integrate relevant areas of science to deliver value to the drug discovery program teams
  • Demonstrated experience in working in matrixed environment.
  • Experience in significantly contributing to projects in a small team of PhD and MS level scientist to contribute to drug discovery and development programs.
  • Proficiency in the use of a wide variety of lab techniques and research equipment
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact with academics or industry parties
  • Ability to evaluate published studies and develop integrated analytical approaches with translational research scientists to relevant scientific questions on datasets.
  • An impactful publication track record and an ability publish novel findings in a clear and systematic way
  • Ability to contribute to developing and executing a translational research strategy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Self-driven and ability to work well in interdisciplinary teams
  • Experienced in communicating analytical insights and presenting concepts to a diverse audience
