Summary:

Kyowa Kirin, Inc., Research Division located in La Jolla, California is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist with demonstrated leadership, technical and analytical expertise in the area of antibody engineering, recombinant protein design, expression and production, and cell line generation to support the discovery of novel therapeutics for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Essential Functions:
  • Independently directs and executes molecular biology activities for multiple pipeline projects including design, generation, manipulation, and production of recombinant proteins, immunoglobulins and cell lines.
  • Keeps up to date on advanced technologies for molecular biology and actively applies new concepts as appropriate to improve functional area capabilities.
  • Maintains databases of proprietary generated reagents, e.g., vectors and cell lines.
  • Develops short-term research plans for reagent generation based on needs and requests of the projects and Project Leaders.
  • Establishes daily or weekly routines of the Molecular Biology Team members necessary to meet project timetables and project advancement.
  • According to company's goals, participates in decision-making regarding drug discovery plans and short-term research strategies and priorities of the research field.
  • Provides information to develop team or project-related budget for capital equipment, contract research, and critical supplies and conserves project related costs.
  • Prepares necessary documentation for project reviews (proposals, monthly, quarterly, annual, or study reports), patent applications, publications, and/or animal, biosafety, or human subject protocols.
  • May lead and manage at least one technology or pipeline project from idea through Lead Candidate selection.
Requirements:

Education
  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in molecular biology, biochemistry, biomolecular engineering, immunology, or related discipline.
Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years Bio-Pharma industry experience in Molecular Biology and Antibody Engineering
Technical Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of antibody optimization and humanization techniques through discovery of antibody-based biotherapeutics in an industry setting is required.
  • Demonstrated team leadership is required.
  • Strong understanding of protein structure-function relationships is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of immunology is preferred.
  • Experience in leading a pipeline project from idea to Lead Candidate Selection or championing a technology initiative is nice to have.
