Merck’s Translational Molecular Biomarkers (TMB) is a state-of-the-art clinical laboratory responsible for the development, validation, deployment and oversight of translational biomarkers for all therapeutic areas and in all phases of clinical development. It encompasses specialty laboratories in the fields of Mass Spectrometry, Flow Cytometry, Molecular Pathology, Immunochemistry and Genomics.  We are seeking an energetic candidate with a strong interest in Translational Sciences.


The individual will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop and validate novel mass spectrometry-based biomarker assays using advanced techniques including triple quadrupole and high-resolution Mass Spectrometry, immunoaffinity enrichment, automation, low-flow chromatography and 2D separations. 
  • Perform clinical sample analysis using quantitative Mass Spectrometry including triple quadrupole-based bioanalysis assays and provide oversight of assay performance during clinical trials.
  • Assist in the translation of biomarker assays between Discovery Research and Clinical Development for all specialties within TMB. This includes interfacing with scientists and physicians in early and late stage clinical development to execute on biomarker strategies in clinical trials and serving as a subject matter expert in biomarker assay development and execution in the development teams. 
  • Write memos, final reports and publications summarizing data and write/update laboratory SOPs.
  • Present data within team and project meetings as well as at external meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

Education:  

  • BS, BA, MS or PhD in a life sciences discipline (Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Pathology, Cell Biology, etc.) or Chemistry 

Required: 

  • A minimum of 10 (for BS or BA), 5 (for MS) or 2 (for PhD) years of pharmaceutical industry experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of post-doctoral experience for PhD candidates
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in bioanalysis assay development and validation
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently; strong leadership skills
  • Ability to perform within a matrixed organization

Preferred:

  • Experience in working in a regulated lab environment
  • Experience with quantitative triple quadrupole mass spectrometry
  • Experience with hybrid immunoaffinity mass spectrometry
  • Broad knowledge of drug development process and translational medicine
  • Experience in development of multi-plexed protein quantitation assays (mass spectrometry)
  • Experience with high resolution protein and peptide mass spectrometry
  • Experience and desire to work in the field of immuno-oncology
  • Experience using WATSON LIMS
  • Experience using laboratory automation
