Description
Senior Research Associate - Preclinical - Molecular Biology
We are a fully integrated AAV engineering and gene therapy company poised to create the next generation of innovative genetic therapies, with life-changing potential for patients with grievous unmet medical needs.

We leverage our proprietary high-throughput AAV engineering platform to create viral vectors with cell-type and tissue level specificity, overcoming many of the biological limitations of early gene therapy efforts. Combined with our in-house preclinical and manufacturing expertise, we are positioned to create the next generation of AAV-delivered gene therapies, dramatically changing patients' lives.

We are founded on the idea that diverse backgrounds and skillsets combine to create an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity, enabling us to grow into a leader in the AAV gene therapy space. Our leadership team is comprised of the scientific founders that developed the underlying intellectual property and experienced industry veterans with a track record for bringing transformative drugs to market. Together with our partners, we will combine next-generation engineered capsids with cutting-edge gene editing and delivery modalities to bring novel medicines to patients that need them. Our research and development labs, offices, vivarium, and manufacturing space are located in Newbury Park, near the Amgen campus.

The Role
We are looking for an experienced, independently motivated, and collaborative Senior Research Associate to support exploratory next-generation gene therapy programs for CNS disease as a member of the Preclinical Team. In collaboration with other Team members, the candidate will be responsible for executing cell and rodent-based studies utilizing a variety of preclinical and exploratory methods, including AAV drug delivery, AAV cargo design, cell-specific expression targeting and de-targeting strategies, necropsy, tissue processing, histology, bioanalytical measures, to support the selection of development drug candidates and IND applications. A successful candidate will have a strong technical background in molecular biology and neuroscience and hands-on experience with proper record keeping, assay development and execution, and a desire to grow and learn at Capsida.

Essential Qualifications
  • Master's with 1+ years of relevant industry experience (or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years experience) in cell biology, molecular biology, physiology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Technically proficient in common molecular biology research techniques such as AAV plasmid cloning strategies, plasmid library design, Sanger sequencing and next generation sequencing
  • Good working knowledge of common gene regulatory elements e.g. promoters, enhancers, introns, and RNA regulatory motifs
  • Experience with data analysis, and data presentation and critical interpretation for studies using protein and/or RNA expression as a readout
  • Highly organized with the ability to independently troubleshoot and problem solve common technical issues
  • Excellent ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner
  • Thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant industry experience conducting nonclinical and IND-enabling studies
  • Good understanding of relevant in-vivo and ex-vivo research techniques, e.g., stereotaxic surgery, brain microdissection, primary rodent neuron cultures, histology, and bioanalytical measures such as biodistribution or expression studies
  • Experience with gene therapy especially in the context of rodent models of CNS diseases
