Key vaccine product franchises are experiencing significant growth, creating this opportunity. This is a unique assignment were you will be assigned to key capital projects at the West Point site within vaccine bulk processing and will then transition to a independently leading active / future capital projects to increase vaccine bulk manufacturing capabilities.

This position you will collaborate with other Integrated Project Team (IPT) members (e.g., Project Management, Technology, Maintenance, Automation, Plant Operations and Safety), Engineering Firms and Vendors to progress deliverables.

The Sr. Project Engineer will participate and drive planning, design, and implementation of capital projects including scope generation, process & facility design, equipment selection, vendor interaction, factory acceptance testing, support - technology transfer, construction support, equipment qualification, facility start-up and process demonstrations.

Limited off-shift or weekend coverage may be required based on project/business unit needs and specific assignments. 

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Develop capital project charter A3s, funding request, understand and execute capital management process, plan and forecast long range capital projects across Bio-Bacterial Manufacturing End-to-End.
  • Collaborates and engages with multiple functional organizations such as Operations, Technology, Quality, Automation, Global Engineering Services, Procurement, Finance, Above Site Technology, Regulatory, among others, to develop and maintain processes that meet cGMP and business requirements.
  • Develop facility life cycle plans, process and operating models and gather data from DeltaV / Pi to come up with improvement projects and justify benefits.
  • Develop presentations for business case or approval stage reviews.
  • Develop and maintain project / portfolio dashboard for tracking progress and communicating updates / escalations.
  • Responsible for defining and leading projects. Specifically, will use standard project management approaches and assemble and lead teams in the execution of projects with responsibility for resourcing, charter development, project planning and tracking, risk management,and escalation. Determine project resource requirements.
  • The incumbent will operate with a high degree of independence, assuring alignment with appropriate functional leaders and stakeholders while advancing their assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Support projects realization from initiation to execution across site franchises. These projects may include capital projects, new product introduction, yield or cost-saving improvements, compliance improvements and new technology introduction.
  • Coordinate scope, assign tasks and allocation of resources within a cross- functional team to meet project goals and deadlines. Foresee possible risks and produce preventive solutions. 
  • Contribute to process and equipment safety reviews.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of customers and stakeholders needs, requirements and expectations.

Education Minimum Requirement:
  • B.S. degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, biological systems engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related life science or engineering discipline and a minimum of 6 years of relevant industrial experience.
  • M.S. degree in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, biological systems engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related life science or engineering discipline and a minimum of 4 years of relevant industrial experience.

Required Experience and Skills:
  • Demonstrated Project Management Experience, preferably in regulated industrial setting.
  • Engineering educational background
  • Minimum of 2 years post-Bachelor’s degree experience in pharmaceutical industry support of Production, Process Engineering, GES, Capital Management, Project Management, Technical Services or related experience. 

Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Interface with Integrated Process Teams (IPT) members in support of Capital Project Delivery
  • Ability to assess multiple options and select a leading approach
  • Core knowledge should include specification of unit operations, P&ID development, Hazard Analysis, equipment operation, commissioning & qualification
  • CIP / SIP experience
  • Manufacturing environment experience
  • Experience working in a cGMP environment
  • Biologics or vaccine processing experience
  • Strong stakeholder management experience
