Senior Manager, Sales Strategy 




The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Manager, Sales Strategy, are to:


  • Lead the development of the annual national trade plans by brand/category, focusing on Bayer brand business goals and Customer Requirements while leveraging all data sources including consumer/shopper insights and syndicated data. The national trade plan includes the following strategies and tactics:
    • Promotional;
    • Pricing;
    • Distribution;
    • Shelving.
  • Serve as the voice of the Customer with Marketing and Senior Management, providing Sales perspective and POV and proactively champions / influences sales aspects of key initiatives such as:
    • 4 P's (promotional, placement, product/ assortment, pricing);
    • Timing;
    • Trade activation needs;
    • Customer response;
    • Innovation Pipeline;
    • Competitive Intelligence.
  • Oversee the development of new item launch strategy and sales communications, including:
    • Launch distribution goals;
    • Promotional strategies and tactics;
    • Shelving objectives;
    • Shopper strategies and tactics;
    • Pricing objectives;
    • New Item Launch materials;
    • Presenting the new item to the sales organization;
    • Presenting the new item to Customers.
  • Drive and interpret ongoing analysis, research, and evaluation to evolve trade strategies and tactics as well as to communicate back to the organization best practices;
  • Serve as liaison with Bayer Research in scoping and fielding shopper research;
  • Lead communications and sharing of best practice learning to both Field Sales and Brand Management;
  • Act as an organizational advocate to enhance understanding and potential application of shopper engagement;
  • Assist in the sell in to Customers of new products and Brand business objectives.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive Sales, Sales Management, Trade Marketing, and/or Sales Agent Management experience in the consumer packaged goods industry
  • The proven track record should also have included a minimum of 3 years of Field Customer Marketing, Category Management or Headquarters Customer Marketing experience, as well as exposure to all trade classes;
  • Must have experience dealing with both Field and Headquarters organizations;
  • Excellence in analysis, interpretation of data and ability to translate into action-oriented recommendations and directions;
  • Ability to communicate, both written or orally, in a clear, concise and effective manner with an emphasis in the ability to successfully deliver oral presentations to large groups, including senior management, as well as influence small groups and one-on-one discussions;
  • Strong financial skill set is required with experience in a basic understanding of brand P&L's, ROI and budget management;
  • Ability to prioritize opportunities based on required time.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA;
  • 3 years in a supervisory capacity as to managing resources (preferably direct).
