Seed Growth Technical Scientist II 




The teritory will cover Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Kansas.


The primary responsibilities of this role, Seed Growth Technical Scientist I, are to: 


  • Collect, summarize and present product performance information for sales personnel and customers. Anticipate and respond to local needs and be accessible as regional expert on Bayer and competitive SeedGrowth products. Develop technical product positioning for the Sales Districts and is actively involved in Team projects. Hirers and supervises summer interns;
  • Provide leadership and product training to sales, key customers, and new hires at local and regional level. Make presentations on Bayer technologies at local and state meetings;
  • Design and coordinate product demonstration trials and tours in innovative ways. Have broad knowledge of field research techniques and design and leads development of local and regional protocols. Can see projects through to conclusion;
  • Be the key influencer interface for Bayer studies and recommendations, negotiates protocols and GIA, and conducts regular label reviews and updates. Identify need for and coordinate special emphasis seminars. Is responsible for proactive programs that improve Bayer relationships with key influencers;
  • Help develop and implement district complaint guidelines and provide training and investigative assistance to sales personnel. Assist in negotiations with complex complaint issues to restore customer satisfaction;
  • Interface with and provide input to Product Development/Field Development/Technical Services/Research Station/Seed Technology personnel regarding new product registration needs and innovations;
  • Be responsible for field safety in handling and storage of pesticides, vehicles, and equipment used to conduct field trials. Assist with the promotion of a safety culture in Bayer.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree with seven (7)+ years’ experience with demonstrated skills and significant relevant experience in a biological or agricultural science;
  • Evidence of proficiency and innovation at the previous position must be evident;
  • Technical knowledge of crops and pests within the territory and region in his/her specific areas of training;
  • Working knowledge in two pest control disciplines;
  • Serves as territory/regional specialist for important SeedGrowth product uses;
  • Communication, innovation and human relations skills are necessary to perform the duties of the position, influence decision makers and project a positive Bayer technical image;
  • Problems on which the incumbent is an expert will require district/regional involvement for solutions;
  • Must identify with input from Sales and Marketing in-house field trial and demonstration needs and establish them with minimal help from the Regional Manager and other experienced personnel;
  • Must evaluate influencers in the territory and the impact they have on Bayer products and their development;
  • Analytical and creative skills are needed to identify and take advantage of new business opportunities within the territory/region;
  • Must be capable of operating experimental and commercial spray equipment and laboratory equipment;
  • Must obtain pesticide applicator certification in the states within the territory;
  • Proficient computer skills are needed to enter and summarize data and prepare promotional and training literature.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • MS degree with five (5)+ years’ experience or a research/thesis-based Ph.D. degree with three (3)+ years’ experience;
  • Experience as a SeedGrowth Technical Scientist I or equivalent position.
