Position Summary:

This position will contribute toMerck's drug discovery and clinical development efforts in the Department ofPharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Drug Metabolism (PPDM) at MercK Research Labs (MRL) in Rahway, NJ.

The main goal of this group is todevelop and support assays that will predict disposition of drug candidates andto develop strategies that provide insights into the potential for drug-druginteractions by being a substrate or inhibitor of drug metabolizing enzymes or transporters.  

Successful candidates should have a passionfor generating high quality in vitro PPDM data for use by project teams acrossa range of therapeutic areas and must have strong bench level in vitroskills.

Candidates must have demonstrated leadership as well as excellentwritten and verbal communication skills.


Education Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR Master’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience

Appropriate subjects for highest degree include biology, biochemistry, bio-engineering, pharmacology or related field.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Competent in cell culture techniques and cell based assays
  • Desire to perform and interpret in vitro drug transporterstudies in recombinant cell lines, vesicles and primary hepatocytes
  • Enthusiasm to learn more about transporter mediated drugdisposition
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Experience of working within a research-drivenpharmaceutical company
  • Comfort with automation and/or developing technologies
  • Working knowledge of drug transporter science
  • Prior knowledge in drug metabolism would be a plus
