HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

We are looking for a bioinformatics scientist to join the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cell Biology R&D team. We are responsible for identifying and developing technologies for incorporation into new products, generating application data, and crafting marketing collateral in support of Gibco™ cell culture products. In this role you will work closely with multiple product development teams to reach these goals.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

* Programming, algorithm development, and model building; required for analysis of next-generation DNA and RNA sequencing data

* Align internal results with public and proprietary available databases, such as NCBI Geo, TCGA, and ClinVar

* Communicate across functions, especially with cell and molecular biologists to interpret sequence results, propose additional experiments, and adjust designs to support the fast-paced development work

* Hands-on DNA and RNA sequencing to support ongoing development programs

* Follow all company safety, training, and quality regulations (e.g., ISO compliance, GLP/GMP requirements, etc.) and procedures

HOW YOU WILL GET HERE

Education

Strong foundation in bioinformatics with a Ph.D. and 0-3 years of experience or a Master's degree and 5-8 years of experience. Relevant subject areas include Biology, Immunology, or similar.

Minimum qualifications

* Hands-on experience with DNA and/or RNA sequencing

* Proficiency in handling genomic databases, designing and writing code for bioinformatics algorithms, as well as statistics and data visualization

* Demonstrated ability to design and conduct research independently

* Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interpret, summarize, and present scientific results in a clear, concise, accurate manner to both technical and non-technical audiences

* Ability to generate new insights, achieve results, and solve problems

* Excellent time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills

Preferred qualifications

* Hands-on mammalian cell culture experience, especially in cancer

* Proficiency with machine learning, artificial intelligence, Python, and R preferred

* Experience with non-NGS data sets, including proteomics or lipidomics
