We are seeking a Scientist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:
(1) Perform a wide range of complex procedures and techniques including, cell culture, molecular biology, DNA/RNA analysis, DNA/RNA isolation, DNA/RNA purification, DNA/RNA next generation (Illumina) sequencing, flow cytometry, gene cloning.
(2) Lead the sequencing group in developing research including planning and conducting experiments and data analysis.
(3) Develop protocols for use in clinical vaccine trial analyses.
(4) Collaborate with scientists from other organizations or institutions involved in similar or related research projects.
(5) Lead students, post-doctoral fellows and non-doctoral research technicians on experimental design and laboratory-based methodologies.
(6) Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments.
(7) Perform high level next generation DNA/RNA sequencing data analysis.
(8) Manage project pipeline for the Vaccine Immunology Program.
(9) Develop novel protocols for sequencing viral genomes by sequence alignment and primer design.
(10) Design and implement improved methods to existing standard next generation sequencing protocols.
(11) Develop protocols into SOPs for use in training material.
(12) Maintain and operate two workstation robots to increase library prep throughput and sample clean-up.
(13) Develop the technique of single cell RNA-seq.
(14) Train individuals from other laboratories around the world in the technique of single cell RNA-seq, as a part of Vaccine Research Center collaborations.
(15) Analyze sequencing data produced by different types of analyzers.
(16) Integrate new instruments (NovaSeq, 10x Chromium, Mosquito) to increase the project versatility of the Genome Analysis Core.
(17) Manage sequencing projects once they are initiated by determining costs and acceptable timelines and providing frequent updates for these collaborations.
(18) Knowledge of LIMS system (Clarity or LabWare) with a view to interfacing instruments.
(19) Work with staff to plan technical aspects of sequencing projects by suggesting innovative methods and approaches.
(20) Work with staff to develop and optimize assays for diverse new projects.
(21) Produce high quality scientific data and analysis consistently using new methods such as single cell sequencing.
(22) Help train post-baccalaureate IRTAs and collaborators in molecular biology assays in the core.
(23) Provide assistance in budget management of various projects.
(24) Calibrate and operate a variety of laboratory instruments under GLP guidelines and follow SOPs to perform test, analysis, and other procedures.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:
(1) Ph.D. degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master's degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
(2) Minimum of five (5) years of experience in biology or a related field including cell and molecular biology, immunology, and/or next generation sequencing.
(3) Demonstrates experience working in a laboratory environment.
(4) Demonstrates knowledge of maintaining accurate and detailed records.
(5) Demonstrates knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.
(6) Demonstrates knowledge of budget management for various projects.
(7) Demonstrates working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices
