As a Discovery Biology Scientist, you will be a member of a highly driven, interdisciplinary team focused on new target discovery and the development of first in class therapeutics.
Job Description and Opportunities:
Design and execute cell-based assays to capture new target biology using molecular and cellular biology techniques
Establish and maintain translational cellular systems including primary cells
Successfully navigate technical difficulties and implement creative, thoughtful solutions
Keep detailed and organized records of experimental protocols and results
Stay up-to-date with emerging scientific literature and share your ideas liberally
Drive multiple scientific efforts in parallel
Collaborate and communicate across a diverse scientific team to successfully progress Velia goals
Requirements
Key Qualifications Include:
A Master's or Ph.D. degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with 3+ years of hands-on research experience in cell-based assays in an industrial or academic setting
The ability to independently design, optimize, and implement medium to high-throughput cell-based assays
Hands-on experience with cell culture, including isolation, culturing, and characterization of primary cells
Experience with fluorescence and luminescence detection platforms, high-content imaging platforms and automated liquid dispensing platforms (Bravo, Echo)
Biomarker development experience is desirable
Proficiency in analyzing data with GraphPad Prism is required
Prior experience in a drug-discovery setting is a plus
Keen analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to resolve routine issues using appropriate information
The ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, communicate clearly, work within departmental groups, and to build open and collaborative relationships is essential
