Position summary


Participates in the supervision, teaching and or training of the Family Practice Residents according to the guidelines set forth by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education.  In pursuing continued academic growth, the faculty physician provides patient care and serves as a leader and role model.

  • Graduation from family medicine residency program





  • DEA Certification (verified through Physician Credentialing)

  • American Board of Family Practice (verified through Physician Credentialing)


Position duties (essential functions, INCLUDE % OF TIME)


QUALITY - 35 %

  • Provides high quality patient care

  • Provides ambulatory care in the Family Medicine Clinic as designated

  • Exemplifies the highest standards in patient care as a faculty member and role model to residents

  • Participate in chart audits and Quality assurance activities

  • Assists with facilitation of the residency Quality Improvement program

  • Institution specific duties located in Addendum A

SERVICE - 10 %

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and professional mentoring of the Residents

  • Facilitates resolution of issues and enforces policies involving Residents

  • Attends and actively contributes to Faculty Meetings

  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the core conference curriculum

  • Participates in Residency team function

  • Serves on Hospital and Residency committees

  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of Faculty and Residents

  • Maintains medical staff privileges and participates in medical staff committees

  • Other duties as assigned

COST -5 %

  • Practices medicine with awareness of cost and participates in hospital and clinic cost reduction efforts

PEOPLE - 30 %

  • Develops proficiency in teaching and mentoring residents

  • In rotation with other faculty, takes call and rounding for residency practice

  • Precepts in the clinic, including direct observation of patient/resident encounters

  • Supervision of residents in all aspects of training according to the rules and regulations of ACGME

  • Provide lectures to the residents and faculty as assigned by the program director

  • Teaches or supervises medical students, other ancillary students, and midlevel providers as assigned

  • Mentors residents who serve in a leadership role in the residency, as representatives, Chief Residents, or committee members

  • Support and mentor residents to lead resident meetings and co facilitation of the resident/faculty meetings in the program

GROWTH – 10 %

  • Supports and conducts scholarly activity

  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skill

  • Development of personal and professional knowledge and competence through continuing medical education, including obtaining or maintaining board certification with the American Board of Family Medicine

  • Participation in a longitudinal professional development program, preferably the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Emerging Leaders program, or an alternative with similar goals


  • Leadership in at least one longitudinal community enhancement  program within the residency program
