Job Summary

Under the direction of the Nutrition Core Director and the Bionutrition Unit Manager, the Researh Tech IV performs diverse and complex nutrition research activities within the CHPS.  The position requires completion of a two year Dietetic Technician program

 2 to 5 years of research experience in the field of dietary assessment is strongly preferred.  Completed coursework should include nutrition assessment, diet therapy, and research methods.  

Job Responsibilities


.Assists the Research Bionutritionists in all aspects of data collection for approved research studies in coordination with the workflow of the unit.

Prepare and analyze diet records and food recalls, including monitoring the quality of diet records and clarifying diet entries through follow-up phone calls to family.

Perform 24-hour recalls using knowledge of diet and nutrition standards.

Administer food frequency questionnaires.

Obtain pertinent information from study-specific questionnaires and screens for nutritional risk.

Assists in data entry for all research projects; checks for accuracy and makes corrections.

Assist the Research Bionutritionists processing dietary information and troubleshooting problems

Compile software generated reports for dissemination to study team.

Troubleshoot software and other work flow problems and collaborate closely with team members to identify solutions.

Identify solutions for analyzing complex diet records.

Researches nutrient contents of foods

Assists with research protocols utilizing the metabolic kitchen

Maintains knowledge base and skills in nutritional assessment

Attends Nutrition Center Seminar Series presentations.

Attend and contribute to appropriate nutrition education and continuing education activities at CHOP and the University of Pennsylvania community



Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree 
  • The experience requires completion of a 2 year Dietetic Technician program or a degree Human Nutrition and OR Dietetics .
  • Completed coursework should include nutrition assessment, diet therapy, and a computer class. Preferred 2 years of experience in a research setting supporting dietary research activities.
  • 2 years of research  experience
