Job Summary

The Center for Data Driven Discovery in Biomedicine (D3b) is looking for a Lab Technician II who will participate in research projects focusing on characterizing mutations in pediatric gliomas such as the novel fusion genes, loss of NF1 in pediatric brain tumors and assessing their response to known and novel small molecule inhibitors.   Ideal applicants should have a strong work ethic, work independently, and be highly motivated. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and accuracy when carrying out experiments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Directly responds to supervising Scientist and Project Manager
  • Composes methods and sets-up protocols accurately under the direction of the PI or senior scientist, modifies methods and protocols when required
  • Performs basic laboratory techniques as western blot, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qRTPCR, cell culture, in vivo studies, etc..
  • Performs calculations and maintains appropriate log books and lab notebooks
  • Researches journal, white papers and other scientific publications for pertinent information
  • Prepares data for publication or presentation at national/international symposia
  • Help maintain reagents stock inventories and other reagent/freezer inventories.
  • Carefully follow laboratory safety procedures and perform experiments in compliance with research safety standards.
  • Perform training and complete training documentation on standard operating procedures pertaining to job functions.
  • Supervise new students and technicians in the conduct of above experiments.
  • Attend training sessions relevant to job roles as needed

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree, 9 - 18 months laboratory experience required
  • Relevant Internship experience considered

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
