Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): This position is within the Empirical & Data Driven Modeling group which utilizes a number of statistical techniques to support Corning’s Research & Development. The job requires an individual that is exceptionally strong in statistics and/or mathematics yet also possesses a technical aptitude to work with scientists from a number of disciplines.


Day to Day Responsibilities: Under the direction and supervision of a Senior Research Statistician, the successful candidate will provide statistical consulting and analysis services to Corning researchers and scientists. Areas of application may include Life Sciences, Display, Glass Research, Environmental, Specialty Materials, Optical Fiber, or other adjacencies.


Travel requirements (please note if international): None Expected (< 5%)


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Normal Business Hours 8:00-5:00 with additional hours occasionally needed for urgent project demands.


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration): Master or PHD level student that has completed at least 1 year of coursework in their respective program. B.S. in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Any Physical or Life Science (Preference to STEM)


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess):

Proficiency with at least one statistical analysis package including JMP, Minitab or R

Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Proficiency in the Statistical Methods of: Design of Experiments Hypothesis Testing and Inferential Statistics ANOVA Regression Analysis


Desired Skills (these are the skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):

Interest in real world applications of Statistical Methods to problems in the sciences and technology.

Programming Language (VBA, Python, Visual C/C++)

Proficiency in General Linear Models


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership): Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills are essential. The successful candidate with likely engage with Corning employees having a broad range of skills, educational and cultural backgrounds. The engagement may be one on one or within a team environment.
