Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):


The Process Simulation Scientist is responsible for advancing our understanding of glass making processes. Candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of fluid mechanics and heat transfer and a strong expertise in numerical simulation. This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to work effectively across multiple organizations in Research, Development, Engineering and Manufacturing.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

1. Develop and apply numerical models to solve glass making processes problems and/or design equipment

2. Advance our capability in glass process design and control via modeling & experimentation

3. Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to solve R, D, & E problems

4. Communicate modeling results/conclusions to drive project decisions


Travel requirements (please note if international): Expected travel time <10% (domestic).

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours per week but some flexibility is required.


Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering


Required Skills (These are skills that candidates must possess):

1. Expertise in Computation Fluid Dynamics and heat transfer; experience in non-Newtonian flow and radiation is a plus.

2. Problem solving skills and strong engineering intuition. Results oriented thinking.

3. Ability to breakdown real world problems into solvable modeling objectives

4. Ability to interact with people of diverse backgrounds


Desired Skills (these are the skills that would be nice for candidates to possess):

1. Problem solving skills with developing hypothesis on product or process related issues and effectively design approaches to find the root cause(s)

2. Knowledge and experience of numerical simulation software and platforms such as ANSYS, COMSOL, NoGrid, Ployflow, etc.

3. Knowledge and experience in free surface flow is a plus.

1. Must be self-motivated and demonstrate strong curiosity of the technical work

2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

3. Respect others and be willing to work across diverse cultures and backgrounds
