Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group): We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct research in an exciting field of Science and Technology! This job provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to realization new life-changing next-generation Communication technologies for the 5G Mobile Communication era and beyond. The successful candidate will work closely with teams of outstanding Research Scientists and Engineers located at our historical state-of-art research center in Corning, NY, as well as other global locations. The successful candidate will provide conduct research into network architectures of optical and wireless communication systems – including Software Define Networks (SDNs). The candidate will play a key role in establishing new laboratory testing and evaluation capabilities in optical and wireless network architectures and software-based networking technologies. The candidate will also be expected to use software-based tools to investigate and conduct research into novel system architecture concepts for Corning’s future connectivity solutions, by conceiving, designing, and participating in the execution and evaluation of laboratory system experiments. The candidate will play an important role in the creation of relevant IP to protect key inventions related to novel networking solutions.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: • Conceive, propose, and execute research projects/activities involving novel communication systems and networks • Design and perform experiments • Collaborate on various fiber-optic and wireless projects and support technology transfer to various Development organizations in Corning, NY, and other Corning sites.

 

Travel requirements (please note if international): ~5 % travel - some international

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week, with extended hours if needed.

 

Education and Experience: • MSc. or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics or equivalent. • No minimum work experience required 

 

Required Skills: • Strong background in communication technologies (fiber-optic systems, wireless communication systems). • Working knowledge of common Network Architectures (including FTTH, backhaul, front-haul, etc.). Knowledge of new trends in networking technologies - including Network Convergence • Previous direct experience developing and implementing Software Designed Networks (SDN). • Previous direct experience developing and implementing novel optical fiber communications systems. • Direct hands-on laboratory experience • Familiarization with new 5G wireless technologies including Massive MIMO, new Radio Access technologies, Self-Optimizing Networks (SON), Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets), Small Cells, Base Station functional split, etc.
