Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Develop new models to gain fundamental understanding of the thermal poling process and how it can be used to add value to Corning glasses.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: Review the existing literature on modeling of thermal poling and interact with current team members to gain key knowledge about the poling process. Run simulations, develop and test new models for thermal poling.

 

Travel requirements: No travel required.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 40 hours per week.
  • Flexible start and end time, but from the end of May to the middle of August

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration):

  • Current graduate student (PhD or Masters) in engineering.
  • Knowledge of materials modeling

 

Required Skills:

  • Computer programming: Python, MATLAB
  • Ability to solve differential equations
  • Familiarity with modeling software like COMSOL
  • Materials modeling knowledge and experience

 

Desired Skills:

  • Some machine learning knowledge
  • Experience modeling diffusion processes

 

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

  • Team player
  • Good communication skills
