Position: Research Associate (12 month Contract Renewable)
Contract: 12 Month Renewable
Location: South San Francisco

Position Description:
The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary protein sciences team with a focus on applying molecular and cell biology techniques to support projects relevant to human aging and disease. The candidate will collaborate closely with protein biochemists to understand functional mechanisms protein targets and their interactions. The ideal candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, work autonomously with a variety of experimental techniques, and be comfortable presenting results to cross-functional teams.

Position responsibilities:
  • Work closely with members in the Protein Science group to design, generate, and purify plasmids required for recombinant protein expression or cellular assays.
  • Routine cell-culture duty to generate and maintain mammalian cell lines used for protein expression and cell-based assays
  • Ability to perform key biochemical gel electrophoresis and membrane blotting techniques as needed.
Position requirements:
  • B.S/M.S in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline plus 0 - 2 years experience working in biopharma/biotech sectors.
  • Experience with molecular cloning techniques (e.g. PCR, restriction cloning, plasmid purification, bacteria transformations, etc.)
  • Experience with DNA gel electrophoresis and restriction digest
  • Experience with mammalian/bacterial cell culture maintenance and aseptic techniques.
  • Strong teamwork and proactive communication skills.
  • Accountable, meticulous with attention to detail, and able to multitask.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills to interact with vendors and contract groups
  • Self-motivated and be able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with the following is a bonus:
  • Previous wet lab experience.
  • Experience with protein gel electrophoresis and membrane blotting techniques such as SDS-PAGE and western blots.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and DNA transfection protocols highly desired.
  • Software experience with SnapGene.
