Job Summary

Postdoctoral Positions in Genetic Regulation of the Skeleton in Health and Disease

Postdoctoral fellow positions will be available starting in July of 2018 in the newly relocated research laboratory of Dr. Véronique Lefebvre in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

The fellows will drive projects on molecular mechanisms specifying skeletal stem cell identity and self-renewal and driving chondrocyte and osteoblast differentiation and activity. Several projects will assess the roles and regulation of SOX transcription factors in these processes. Other projects will uncover molecular pathways underlying specific forms of human skeletal diseases, including chondrodysplasias, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. The fellows will use cutting-edge approaches in vivo and in vitro, including mouse genetic models and next-generation sequencing. New findings are anticipated to generate a better understanding of human diseases, and to help develop novel therapeutic approaches for these diseases. Successful accomplishment of the projects will allow the fellows to launch promising research careers in stem cell and molecular genetics relevant to both rare and prevalent human skeletal diseases.

Candidates must have a recent Ph.D. degree in biological sciences and a solid publication record in top-tier scientific journals. Previous expertise and eagerness to learn in the following areas is desired: skeletal biology, stem cell biology, mouse models, and high-throughput sequencing approaches. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English and in communicating scientific research findings accurately and efficiently. First-rate interpersonal and organizational skills are also recommended.

The CHOP Research Institute offers an exceptionally interactive and front-line scientific environment with state-of-the-art research core facilities and with multiple career-development programs for trainees. It recognizes the power of a diverse community and encourages applications from individuals with varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. Competitive salaries are provided along with excellent fringe benefits.

Interested candidates should send a CV, a description of research interests and career goals, and contact information for three references to Dr. Veronique Lefebvre ([email protected]).
