OVERVIEW OF CCA

The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that is committed to serving its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusion. CCA is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver and has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education.

CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students. 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. POSITION SUMMARY

The Renewable Energy/Environmental Science Department Chair role presents an exciting opportunity to build and lead a new department at CCA charged with providing industry-relevant workforce training, industry credentials and academic certificate and degree pathways in rapidly growing renewable energy and environmental science fields. CCA is seeking an innovative leader with a strong understanding of the renewable energy and environmental industries and experience with instruction, curriculum development and program management for workforce training aligned with industry certification as well as post-secondary certificate and degree programs.

The Chair will lead the development of new credit and non-credit programs; serve as the lead faculty through the launch and ramp up phase of the department; hire, coordinate and support additional department faculty, part-time instructors and support staff as enrollment and financial resources grow; and build and maintain key industry partnerships to inform programming and provide student career and work-based learning opportunities. The Chair, as a faculty member, maintains a commitment to high-quality instruction and the ongoing pursuit of excellence to ensure the success of our diverse student population. Program Research/Development/Launch/Evaluation

* Develop and launch NABCEP-aligned photovoltaic (PV) installer workforce training program and serve as lead instructor for phase I implementation
* Manage PV hands-on training lab, including use by CCA students as well as fee-based used by community partners such as Solar Energy International (SEI)
* Research industry demand, identify additional short-term renewable/environmental science workforce training, lead business analysis and present recommendations for additive programming; lead the launch of approved additive programming
* Research and recommend credit certificate and degree program sequence aligned with industry and student demand and building on workforce training projected to generate strong 5-10-year enrollment and revenue; lead the launch of approved credit programming, potentially with iterative phasing
* Lead the ongoing review, analysis, modification and/or phase out of programming based on enrollment, revenue, industry demand and career prospects

Leadership/Program Management/Support

* Collaborate with faculty and instructors in the design and implementation of department plans that support the college mission, vision, strategic plan, and equity and inclusion goals
* Exemplify and maintain a positive climate of collaboration and inclusiveness inside and outside the department
* Mentor faculty and instructors through professional development and membership in college and professional organizations; coordinate/offer professional development related to assessment of student learning, industry trends and other areas to support individual and department growth and viability
* Conduct regular program reviews according to college guidelines and use disaggregated qualitative and quantitative data to improve department programs, operations, and increase student achievement
* Implement an equity lens when performing teaching observations, coaching faculty and instructors, and performance evaluations
* Engage in and cultivate partnerships with external stakeholders as well as other academic departments and institutional units and offices
* Monitor and implement statewide curriculum initiatives
* Lead course and program development as well as curriculum changes, working with the Curriculum Committee and other staff to ensure timely and accurate reflection in the college catalog
* Coordinate departmental promotion with the college Communications office, Outreach and Recruitment, and Pathway advisors
* Develop and submit accurate course schedules based on enrollment trends and program curricula
* Monitor course enrollment and open or close courses based on registration reports
* Develop and oversee operating budgets
* Approve and oversee concurrent enrollment instructors and courses

Teaching

* The ideal candidate must commit to becoming familiar with relevant instruction and assessment strategies, research, and latest findings identifying factors that positively impact the classroom and the learning experience of students of diverse backgrounds and identities.
* Demonstrate creativity and originality in course, lesson, and assessment design
* Incorporate high impact practices into pedagogy such as: service learning activities, collaborative projects, e-portfolios, internships, etc.
* Include student-centered practices within teaching and course preparation such as student feedback, student experiences, and/or student learning outcomes
* Actively engage in assessment of student learning and utilize disaggregated quantitative and qualitative data to inform changes in teaching and learning practices

Assessment of Student Academic Achievement

* Foster a culture of assessment of student learning to support the college in the goal to erase equity gaps
* Oversee the development, performance of, and completion of course, program, and institutional assessment plans according to college guidelines
* Coach faculty and instructors in the design and implementation of strategies aimed at improving student learning based on assessment findings
* Submit assessment reports including plans for modifying instructional practices
* Incorporate student centered practices such as including student feedback, student experiences, and/or student learning outcomes in decision-making

Ability to embrace change in a dynamic higher education setting

* Master's degree in a closely-related discipline from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credits in environmental science or a related field
* Demonstrated prior leadership experience in academic instruction, including mentoring faculty in improving instructional practices related to adult learning theory, and culturally responsive teaching and learning practices
* Evidence of student-centered and student-empowering teaching practices, particularly related to incorporating the diverse experiences of students, course curriculum and content
* Demonstrated culturally responsive, student-centered approach to teaching and learning.
* Experience navigating departmental relationships and classroom dynamics when issues of equity arise with ability to recognize historical contributions to inequities from the academic discipline
* Evidence of program management skills

Preferred Qualifications

* Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university
* Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with people of diverse identities, and willingness to engage in professional development activities to improve understanding and effectiveness of working with racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse populations
* Experience working at a Hispanic Serving institution and/or Minority Serving Institution and/or in programs aimed at encouraging access, retention, and completion of diverse student populations

Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range is $55,036.00-$78,693.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
