Description

Corning is one of the world’s leading innovators in materials science. For more than 160 years, Corning has applied its unparalleled expertise in specialty glass, ceramics, and optical physics to develop products that have created new industries and transformed people’s lives.

Corning succeeds through sustained investment in R&D, a unique combination of material and process innovation, and close collaboration with customers to solve tough technology challenges.

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

  • Produce product specifications for new or modified products based upon knowledge of the application(s) under which the products will be utilized, an awareness of standards applicable to the products and manufacturing/measurement capabilities. Facilitate agreement of final specifications amongst commercial, manufacturing, standards, and research and development communities.
  • Design and facilitate product development, qualification and characterization testing programs for new or modified products.  Determine test attributes, test acceptance criteria, sample size and sample selection criteria.   Receive, analyze and publish test results, including comparison against acceptance criteria and statistical analysis, where applicable.
  • Provide technical and/or training support relating to inquiries arising from manufacturing or commercial functions.  Solutions may be generated through researching available data or though the design and execution of experiments to generate new data.
  • Assist in executing, maintaining and improving the systems utilized for product specification documentation and changes, the qualification of process and measurement changes and periodic auditing.  Assist in tracking the status and metrics associated with these systems.
  • Establish credibility as a key technical resource within Corning Optical Fiber relative to selected   area(s) of expertise.  Area(s) of expertise could include: optical properties, particularly for a specific product line or parameter(s); the impact of fiber coating formulation, properties and processing parameters (including wind quality and packaging) on product measurements, robustness and functionality; or others.
