Overview of Position

The Regional Pharmacy Account Director (RAD) will oversee a team of at least 3 exempt Account Managers who may have responsibilities for multiple states and their direct reports. The RAD will report directly to the Chief Services Officer of Account Management. The resources they will oversee will be part of a cross-functional team and may have responsibilities for resources on the client side or vendors. The RAD will support the Change Healthcare Pharmacy Benefit Services (CHPBS) team in the following areas:

  • Responsibility for the following key performance indicators for the Account Managers (AM) group:
    • Provide leadership with a strategic focus
    • Maximize team member impact and increase accountability (Objectives and Key Results)
    • Inspire Resources
    • Shared Best Practices
    • Financial Stewardship
      • Understanding and owning the P&L for clients
      • Upselling Opportunities with a growth mindset
      • Pipeline Development with client opportunities
      • Attend conferences/Sales meeting participation and debrief to determine ROI of attending and follow up action items

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

RFP Phase:

  • Develop staffing estimates for RFP requirements including but not limited to:
    • Call center
    • Clinical team
    • Clinical key staff
  • Review and analyze full scope of work in the RFP in order to determine our capabilities.
  • Attend associated conferences and meetings as needed:
    • RFI Demos
    • Bidders Conferences
  • Provide input on vendors (Minority/Women/Veteran Business Entities) as needed.
  • Participate in the RFP agile sprint planning, sprint demonstrations, and daily standups.
  • Develop job descriptions.
  • Open requisitions for contingent hires with input from Business Development team.
  • Work with Business Development and Talent Acquisition to coordinate interviews for contingent hires.
  • Identify candidates, conduct Interviews for Account Manager and other key clinical staff and follow thru with working with Talent Acquisition to complete the onboarding process.
  • Provide input on organization structure and administration of new account including:
    • Facilities needs
    • Phone system & call center needs
    • Organizational charts
    • Staff locations (local vs. remote)
  • Participate in Oral Demonstrations as requested.

Design, Development, & Implementation (DDI) Phase:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional project team throughout implementation and contract life-cycle while providing servant leadership.
  • Obtain full understanding and management of contract/RFP response, contract requirements, state Medicaid program policies and requirements, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Participation in Requirement Review sessions with project team (client and internal).
  • Provide input into the development of the Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM) and the Business Rules.
  • Validate and fulfill tasks according to the project schedule in close collaboration with entire Project Team.
  • Traveling to client site as required during the DDI phase.
  • Provide support, training, guidance, and advocacy to AM throughout DDI phase and beyond.

Operational Phase:

  • Mentor, coach, and manage AMs and their direct reports including but not limited to:
    • Administrative duties
    • Contractual compliance and SLA oversight
    • Clinical coordination
    • Operational support
    • Facilities management
    • Approval on all supply orders
    • Invoicing, general account questions
    • Calling command center when issues arise
  • Develop OKRs and hold 1:1 meetings with direct reports at least bimonthly.
  • Assist with management and maintenance of client relationships of direct reports and provide strategic direction to the team.
  • Develop a working knowledge of federal and state specific Medicaid Pharmacy Policy and regulations suggesting enhancements and/or changes including industry standards not limited to NCPDP, clinical guidelines, etc.
  • Attend meetings, legislative hearings, and conduct presentations upon request of the Medicaid Program.
    • Support AM with Sovereign States Drug Consortium (SSDC) meetings where applicable
  • Travel as required.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Minimum of 5+ years of account management experience in the healthcare industry, preferably in Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) or large healthcare organization required
  • Licensed pharmacist in good standing in at least one state required. The preferred pharmacy experience would be in the retail/community pharmacy space
  • Qualification to work for state and federal programs required
  • Direct people management experience as well as experience managing multi-disciplinary teams of resources including administrative functions required
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • PharmD or equivalent experience in the industry preferred
  • PBM experience is preferred
  • MBA or business focused degree preferred
  • Managed care residency preferred

How much should I expect to travel?

Post COVID this position may travel up to 30%. Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
