Performs all respiratory care modalities in the treatment of pulmonary disease and disorders as required in respective job description for RCP RRT, and as appropriate RCP NICU, adhering to all department and hospital required license(s), certifications, regulatory agency requirements. Performs bedside diagnostic tests and assessments to evaluate the extent of pulmonary dysfunction. Manages and monitors mechanical ventilation and artificial airways. Participates in cardiac arrest/respiratory arrest code situations, and assists with intubation. Maintains a working knowledge of department standard operating procedures, including the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance. This includes the knowledge of specialized equipment and related computer systems. Projects an image of professionalism in communication, appearance and conduct. Supports the department mission. Participates in the continuous quality improvement process. Performs three (3) advanced practice respiratory therapy care delivery demographics within the Respiratory Care Department. Position may require travel between various Hoag Hospital (Hoag) locations and its affiliates. Performs other duties as assigned.


Education, Training and Experience RCP RRT CLINICAL;


  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential granted by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Previous experience as an RCP practicing in the acute care patient setting, as well as pulmonary rehabilitation program facilitation > 2years.


Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions.


License and Certifications 


  • Current license to practice respiratory care granted by the Respiratory Care Board of California.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential verified and granted by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), must remain current for the entire term of employment.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification granted by the American Heart Association for CVICU/FOB/Shift Charge.  For those working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification granted by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Basic Life Support (BLS).
