Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

The R&D New Process Development Engineering Supervisor is responsible for directing, coaching, and mentoring a group of process focused engineers and technicians within the Connectivity Technology organization. This leadership position will manage technology talent supporting associated product teams, corporate business directives and technology objectives.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

•Direct engineering personnel in process projects and activities. Conduct annual PD&R with each individual direct report.

•Drive/support deep fundamental understanding projects through the use of modeling, DMAIC, design of experiments and MEE hypothesis methods.

•Responsible for documenting fundamental understanding via technical report writing.

•Support deployment of new process technologies that reduce manufacturing cost, increase capacity and sustain process capability.

•Identify process parameters, tolerances and controls required to successfully implement Quality Architecture in Connectivity plants.

•Participate in Product Team road mapping exercises and understand any effect on core process competencies.

•Support the creation and growth of an effective global technical network spanning the Technology Community, Division Engineering, and plant levels.

•Remain abreast of state of the art process technologies and articulate plans to upgrade to achieve/sustain world class performance.

•Identify Technology enabled cost reductions using DMAIC/DESGN tools.

•Generate and document IP.



•Bachelor of Science in Engineering

•7+ years' R&D, process and or product engineering development experience        

•Excellent project management skills (planning, resource management, conflict resolution, able to meet deadlines)

•Excellent problem solving and decision making skills demonstrated by the use of advanced data analysis.

•Desired Skills:

•Experience with Cable Assembly manufacturing processes and established relationships with multiple functional groups in global locations.

•Experience with Stage Gate projects, both early stage innovation (stage 1-3) and later stage activities (Stage 4-5).


Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

•Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)

•Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

•Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external customers and within multi-national groups

•Ability to clearly express technical ideas

•All main communication is in English

•Ability to influence outside of direct reporting structure

•Ability to motivate individuals and manage situations; good coaching and mentoring skills.

•High initiative, able to work with minimal direction.       


Travel Requirements 20% travel expected to NAFTA and International locations.
