Scope of Position:

Perform chemical and physical testing of raw materials and finished goods. Provide technical support, analysis of data, and report writing for decision making by various plant departments.



·         Chemical and physical testing according to the Composition Control Program, interpreting and reporting of results and formulate glass batch changes as test results indicate.

·         Operate various instruments such as UV-VIS, XRF, Autoclave, ICP, Thermal Expansion, Softening Point, Annealing Point, Strain Point, pH, and other testing equipment as needed

·         Identifies gaps in process capability, independently drives performance improvement and leads projects to continually improve performance of organization

·         Perform USP/EP/JP/ISO/ASTM analytical testing via titration, wet chemistry procedures, or other method.

·         Utilize polarized and reflective light microscopes to analyze defects within glass tubing.

·         Sample preparation using various techniques such as crushing, cutting, melting, weighing, mixing, titrating, filtering, and sieve analysis.

·         Assists with development and qualification of test methods.

·         Assure the accuracy of laboratory results using NIST Standard Reference Materials, appropriate calibration and qualification procedures, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

·         Approve incoming raw material certifications and maintain raw material specifications in conjunction with testing of raw materials

·         Maintains written and electronic records as per GLP, as required.

·         Provide technical information, analysis, and support to customers, plants, sales force, and others as directed.

·         Conduct supplier audits (with GSM support) and investigations as required.

·         Participate and/or lead team projects related to the glass, raw materials, chemical processes, glass composition, furnace mapping, or testing of glass.

·         Observes all safety rules and OSHA regulations and performs job in a safe manner.

·         Follows standard operating procedures (SOP, WI, Forms, Flowcharts, etc.)

·         Maintains good housekeeping and 5S.

·         Create, update, review procedures as needed

·         Train new employees on lab procedures

·         Performs other duties assigned.



·         Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Engineering

·         2-5 years relevant hands-on experience

·         cGMP and GLP experience

·         Computer skills in Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

·         Strong communication skills both written and verbal

·         Self-starter with good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a production environment

·         Able to handle a dynamic schedule within a factory environment

·         Good communication skills (oral & written) and asks questions

·         Able to work independently and with people of diverse technical and cultural backgrounds

·         Team Player – Ability to interact with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Commercial groups

·         Communicates and understands direction and asks questions

·         Maintains a clean and orderly work environment

·         Willing to make decisions and effectively communicate those decisions to required groups



Desired Skills:

·         Glass experience a plus

·         Six Sigma experience a plus
