The Quality Improvement Facilitator - Risk   partners closely with the Patient Advocacy department as a clinical resource and assists with clinical investigations/reviews in an efficient, effective and timely manner. The facilitator collaborates with the clinical risk team to develop, coordinate and administer systems for risk identification, investigation and reduction. The Quality Improvement Facilitator-Risk will work closely with other departments as needed to ensure the departmental strategies and goals are upheld and communicated.

 

Serves as the primary liaison between Clinical Risk Management and Patient Advocacy. Conducts clinical reviews and/or audits in response to patient complaints and grievances in a timely and efficient manner, including the coordination of response letters to patients as required. Uses organizational and project management skills, clinical knowledge and presentation skills to advance goals.  Communicates progress to key stakeholders.  Meets expectations of the Carilion Risk Management Advisory Committee.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field required. RN license with 5 years of related experience may be considered.  Master’s Degree Preferred/ Preference will be given to Registered Nurses with diverse clinical experience and/or experience in Quality Improvement, Patient Safety or Risk Management. Legal or Risk Certification preferred

 

Experience: Five years’ experience in clinical setting or demonstrated skill leading quality and/or patient safety improvement projects in complex organizational environments preferred

 

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Certification required – defined by area:  CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) or CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety) preferred.  Must have plan to obtain at least one of these certifications within 2 years of hire.

 

Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent letter writing ability. Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational ability, and initiative. Thoroughly understands CMS guidelines, particularly related to grievance management. Proven ability to understand and apply analytical tools and make process improvement recommendations. Must be familiar with Microsoft Office, EPIC and RisKonnect software and able to learn other software as needed.  Good project management and team dynamic skills in order to facilitate change and achievement of defined outcomes.  Must be able to work with minimal amount of supervision.
