Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position:

To provide technical management support and skills in the development, planning, scheduling, coordinating and completion of solutions (product and deployment methods) for strategic COC customers. 

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with COC Sales, Marketing, PLM, Development, and Manufacturing departemetns as necessary to bring new solution concepts to market.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned proejects, and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Execute successful FOA deployments and field trials of COC cable/ hardware and equipment solutions.
  • Support the cable/ hardware and equipment product development groups with field/ customer feedback on products capabilities. 
  • Be the technical interface with customer technical/program office relative to FOA’s and field trials.
  • Identify product improvements, and new product/solution/deployment opportunities.
  • Train junior personnel in the functions of project management and other group functions as required
  • Take an active roll in creating intellectual property as well as communicating it to the appropriate product line management personnel. 
  • Become a subject matter expert in when assigned a new focus area.  Be able to create presentation and white paper materials on the focus area for use in training, industry forums/seminars, and trade magazines.  Present these materials internally, to clients, and at industry events.
  • Provide engineering support for other tactical projects that may be assigned.
  • Complete and file expense reports in a timely manner, using the Concur expense system.
  • Prepare presentation, spreadsheets, graphs and reports as requested using appropriate skills and software.
  • Assist the team with special projects or needs as requested.
  • Manage confidential and proprietary information with discretion and sound judgment.
  • Manage all day-to-day tasks and support for all team members as necessary.

 

Education:

  • BS degree in technical or engineering field from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience with fiber optic networks and project management:
  • Signifcant experience with telecom network construction methods and equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of COC products
  • Proficiency in Fiber network design

Additional Requirements:

  • Person must be willing to remain in this position for a minimum of two years.
  • Must be willing to travel (including on short notice), primarily for customer meetings.  Estimated travel is expected to be less than 10% of total work days per year.
