Purpose of Position

The Project / Portfolio Manager manages the Portfolio of highly visible and critical projects supporting the Supply Chain strategy. The position will also perform as a project manager as time permits.

These portfolio and individual projects will optimize the CLS Supply Chain in key global regions, establish cost and operational leadership and understanding CLS competitive position.  Projects will  have significant financial and strategic impact and require leadership that is consistent with Corning’s Values.

 Engage the project portfolio management process from demand capture to project initiation and through execution to projects’ closure. This includes ensuring projects are aligned with the strategic objectives of the Division Supply Chain Strategies. Position will work with the project owners to develop level of effort estimates. The person in this role will also design, develop, and execute reporting standards and metrics to enable Staff level monitoring and control of the Supply Chain portfolio in support of supply chain transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • The candidate will look across the supply chain portfolio to identify synergies between projects, facilitate schedule and resource conflicts, and forecast upcoming milestones. The candidate will also develop and maintain project performance dashboards and will create Staff level visualizations that convey information and knowledge about the project portfolio, in order to facilitate informed business decisions. Will work with the SC Enablement Manager to evaluate and analyze data to identify trends and portfolio level issues, risks, and opportunities and establish the appropriate customer-focused success metrics and to track these metrics periodically.
  • For portfolio projects, work with the project managers to establish roles, responsibilities and competencies required for the project. Support the Project Manager to build an effective project team. Establish receivership requirements for project
  • Effectively manage their own project(s) that support the Supply Chain Strategy in alignment with Business, Commercial and Operations Strategies. Thoroughly understand the nature of the business requirement for each project, and recommend important strategic decisions to define the overall project deliverables.  Organize the projects by defining scope and objectives, securing needed resources, and establishing the project governance structure. Develop and manage project budgets and schedules.  Lead the development, submittal and approval of project planning and funding through development of the project Appropriation Request (AR).
  • Within their own projects, Lead all aspects of project management from Initiation. Planning, Implementation & Control and Closure including key areas of
    • Regular project meetings
    • Develop project plans through facilitation of teams, SME’s and stakeholders
    • Form, lead and coach project teams and members
    • Executing required tasks hands-on, when required
    • Project updates to key stakeholders
    • Forecasting Capital and Expense Spending
    • Managing resources and priorities
  • Practice adaptive management style to effectively manage projects in global operating arena, effectively working with different cultures on international assignments.

Required Experience and Education

  • B.S. Required (in Engineering or B.S. in Supply Chain field preferred); MS or MBA desired.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience including Supply Chain, Project Management and supervisory experience
