Purpose of Position

Execute the Erwin plant planning processes for assigned production lines. Work directly with the division strategy group to develop capacity plans. Actively participate and contribute to the monthly S&OP process.  Review and analyze monthly commercial demand forecasts to understand the impact to production planning. Generate a 12 month manufacturing plan for forming, firing and finishing utilizing the business forecast, resource capacity, engineering requirements and inventory targets.  Provide guidance to plant leadership and division Supply Chain Leadership regarding resource bottlenecks and inventory levels vs. inventory targets.  Own and facilitate the plant contingency process.

Major Responsibilities:

Ongoing Tasks

  • Develop monthly receipt plan and track progress and identify gaps. 
  • Provides priority guidance to department heads. 
  • Facilitate monthly meeting with plant operations department heads to track progress on critical performance assumptions and update future assumptions.
  • Participate in weekly supply meetings with sister plants to ensure supply and demand is balanced and identify gaps and help resolve supply issues. 
  • Conduct “what-if” scenarios and provide gap analysis.
  • Engages in cross-plant communications & planning regarding requirements for scheduling shared assets for firing and extrusion. 
  • Ensures scheduling practices are aligned with unit objectives. 
  • Track production performance against plan.  Evaluate impact of manufacturing issues to downstream operations and customer orders and develop solutions to minimize impact.  Communicates issues to manufacturing department head and commercial.
  • Coordinates long term issues with Division planning and Commercial. 
  • Supports product transfer and coordination with both the transferring and receiving plant. Work closely with Division planning to assure schedule integrity and inventory management.
  • Set and monitor inventory targets that support plant and division objectives. 
  • Review and analyze the monthly commercial demand forecasts to understand any impacts to production planning
  • Supports new product implementation including, communications of requirements, integrating New Product Development into the production schedule.
  • Participate in quarterly slow moving inventory review and make recommendations for its disposition.  
  • Complete reports and update department key performance metrics.

  • Data driven – gather and analyze complex data from multiple resources and present the data in a useful manner to make decision.

  • Ability to implement and apply methodologies and techniques to drive planning processes.

  • Experience with IBP, PeopleSoft or other MRP/ERP packages.
  • Microsoft office (Excel-pivot tables, v-lookup, Word, Exchange, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Comprehensive PC skills, particularly spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Requires minimal supervision and overall adequacy and accuracy is reviewed periodically


  • B.S. in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics or a related field
  • Knowledge and at least 5 years’ experience in Supply Chain systems: forecasting, planning, inventory management.
  • Knowledge of forecast principles (APICS or IBF certification preferred) and some application of principles. Understanding of customers, sales & distribution channels. Conceptual understanding of other planning tools and how the Demand Management tools interact.
