Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

Corning’s Glass Microsystems division is poised for rapid growth. This role will be at the forefront of handling new opportunities that challenge our capabilities in the MEMS and electronic device markets, so high quality execution will be critical for winning new platforms and gaining share. This product engineering role bridges the gap between customer requirements and the manufacturing community, defining manufacturing capability and strategy for execution of new and existing product lines. For this position, it is essential that you have the ability to work on/with cross functional teams at multiple locations using both internal and external resources. In addition to a broad basis of Product Engineering knowledge, the engineer in this role is also required to acquire working device physics understanding sufficient to understand, approve, and facilitate the development of future opto-electronic devices. Significant interaction with key stakeholders in R&D, process integration, test engineering, reliability, and quality groups is expected.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

1) Develop and implement missing product engineering disciplines and infrastructure gaps.

2) Enable successful new product introduction by driving development & manufacturing organization through disciplined, phase gate process to define product and manufacturing readiness.

3) Define, document, and support product roadmap.

4) Cross-functional translation of customer product requirements into product requirements document. Drive manufacturing and development organizations to hit these requirements.

5) Bridges the technical gap between Development, Division Engineering, Manufacturing, Commercial, and the customer to ensure the division’s global product specifications meet the needs of all parties. May work with Applications Engineering in fulfilling this responsibility.

6) High-level Contract Manufacturer Management: setting up qualification plans and processes to ensure that suppliers meet the same rigorous standards of process and product qualification that Corning does. Day-to-day activities, follow-up performed by Quality and Supply Chain Engineering functions.

7) Ensure successful characterization of new products, defining production test plans and launching new products into production (EVT, DVT, PVT).

8) Work with cross-functional team including manufacturing, commercial, environmental, & quality to ensure that all required certifications are acquired, product can be sold and deliveries met.

9) Interface with Design, Test, Manufacturing, Reliability, Applications, Foundry and Marketing groups to identify opportunities, drive projects to completion, and verify effectiveness.
