Scope of Position:

• Responsible for defining and prioritizing our product performance requirements based on customer and commercial needs and to translate those requirements into a set of product specifications for development and manufacturing.

• Will collaborate with development and commercial teams to establish preliminary specifications for samples.

• Will work closely with customers to determine if the samples meet customer expectations.

• Will collaborate with development, reliability, engineering, and quality to evaluate inspection methods for product attributes.

• Will work with customers to understand their test methods and alter or augment them as necessary

• Will consolidate diverse customer requirements into general product specifications.

• Will lead product risk assessments and product capability evaluations and use these to establish the Internal Manufacturing Specifications.

• Will collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to establish effective process control plan for each product attribute.

• Will collaborate with development and commercial teams to answer technical questions about the product design and performance and to explain testing methods. This includes both written and verbal communication.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain Internal Manufacturing Specifications (IMS) including target, tolerance, and test method.

• Meet with customers and commercial team to understand:

  • Customer requirements and key product attributes.
  • Customer process and equipment and current issues.
  • Customer inspection equipment and process.
  • Customer technology roadmaps and need for product changes.

• Work with customers to design joint experiments to evaluate samples and communicate results.

• Work with D&E to understand and quantify capability of inspection methods.

• Work with D&E and manufacturing team to understand process capability.

• Work with quality department to ensure quality architecture and control plan will result in product that meets IMS.

• Provide written and verbal responses to technical questions about the product and test methods.

• Assist in evaluating the impact of process and equipment changes on product attributes.


Travel Requirements:

Up to 30% travel to US, Europe, Mexico

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 40 hours/week


Education and Experience:

• BS or MS in Science or Engineering (chemical or material science degree preferred).

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in new product design and development.

• Prefer new product development or materials processing (glass preferred).

• Exposure to manufacturing and understanding of quality management systems (ISO and GMP).


Required Skills:

• Ability to understand details of customer processes and equipment, clearly articulate customers’ requirements and translate them into product attributes and specifications.

• Ability to build strong relationship with customers so that detailed technical information is obtained.

• Ability to design experiments to assess product capability and validate performance in customer’s process. • Ability to plan and execute sample runs at customer site and communicate results.

• Ability to look across entire customer base to determine and prioritize product attributes.

• Ability to effectively collaborate across organization including commercial, R&D, engineering, manufacturing, and quality/regulatory.


Desired Skills:

• Project management – planning, decision analysis, potential problem analysis, risk management.

• Experience with optical and material test equipment and standards.

• Fundamental understanding of chemically strengthened glass.

• Experience in pharmaceutical industry especially in the validation of new products and processes.
