Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Working within the Purchasing Department, Buyer will be responsible for the researching, negotiating and purchasing of all assigned commodities; following through on all PO’s submitted to closure and collaborating with Program Management and Production to fulfill all demands.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordination and/or procurement of assigned commodities to meet the requirements of Company.
  • Must have experience in buying components and other commodities in volume in a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Coordinate, help direct, as well as perform, all required functions from initiation of an intent to purchase through to satisfactory delivery of material or services.
  • Assure that material/services will be delivered on schedule, at negotiated price and meet required quality standards.
  • Initiates necessary action to assure best value is received, customer delivery requirements are met, and address any manufacturing problems at supplier's  facility.
  • Achieve lowest possible cost for material, balanced against optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Solicit and evaluate proposals employing appropriate negotiation, cost and price analysis techniques, using available expertise from supporting organizations; implement purchase contracts following applicable company and government regulations.
  • Evaluate current and anticipated requirements, determine potential sources, obtain bids, and plan programs to meet business needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree from an accredited university or college or work experience equivalent, with at least 3 years of experience in a sourcing environment, preferably Contract Manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years direct experience in a sourcing position, including negotiation involvement.
  • Must have experience on MRP/ERP system, preferably Expandable/Oracle/SAP or similar.
